The Raconteurs
“(embargoed from sharing the title)” one-sided single
scums stats: WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?
Hard to believe I’m even doing one this week, but the collectibility has me all keyed up. Multiple covers? Multiple paper colors? Only given out to Ultra Ticket purchasers? SIGN ME UP.
Everybody is gonna want one, so let me just pre-emptively tell you…I don’t have any to spare!
You wanna place bets on the high price these reach on Discogs? Will anyone be able to collect ALL four?
Good luck to those trying, as you will need it.
You know, this song originally wasn’t going to be on the album. But Swank and I had to explain to the band how DAMN GOOD it was. It makes multiple statements that need to be made. The performance is tight…who even knew Brendan could DO that?
People who won't play the game the hard way, let’s do easy. Let’s give away a test pressing for commenters. You’ve got a week to get it in there. Tell me your favorite Third Man moment of the past ten years. I may use discretion or I may just pick a comment at random, so everyone has a chance.
Favorite Third Man moment? The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records.
i got 99 problems but vault release #39 aint one
I cannot tell a lie, my favorite Third Man moment was the The Sciences release. Coming completely out of left field, and then rushing out to the Boston Newbury Comics as quickly as possible to grab a green copy! It was just the best, absolutely made my month.
This was a hard one. But I was able to narrow it down to two moments. The first is when TMR put out the copy of Elvis‘s first known recording. The fact that Jack purchased the record, then put the effort in to make an exact replica of the recording for the rest of the world to be able to listen to was very cool. I actually got choked up the first time I listen to it, remembering back to when my mom used to play Elvis records for me and my brother when it was just the three of us. I could imagine her looking down from heaven “saying that’s my boy”. Number two on the list was taking my two older boys to see Jack White in Milwaukee. It was their first concert. Me, my sons, and my brother started the chant for Seven Nation Army at the end of the show. The chant ended up swelling to the point where Jack and the band came back out on stage to give us that final encore. I wasn’t able to get a poster for the show at the the time, but then you beautiful TMR folks released copies a few months ago. And now the poster is set up as the centerpiece, along with our tickets stubs and a picture of the three of us, in the soon to be completed music room we are building in my basement. Contest or not, I’m happy to be able to share those memories with my fellow Vaulters. Cheers.
My favorite Third Man moment has been being introduced to Margo Price. Country music is normally outside of what I listen to but there is something about her music that is so real that just does it for me. That she seems to be a better person than musician is just icing on the cake.
Best moment was when TMR got in toe with iggy pop and Jeff gold to produced a classic piece of art with special edition book of total chaos the story of the stooges, stunning production of different elements in one piece of quality work!
It would easily be the time I finally got my hands on the repress of get behind me Satan. Didn’t know a whole lot about third man but listened to that album non stop in middle school.
I didn’t recognize the label At the time, I was just happy I didn’t pay the discogs prices!
I haven’t had many moments with Third Man, yet — only jumping aboard this loud, melodic train in the last year — but my favorite moments thus far have been seeing Jack live in Tulsa in September and then purchasing my first Vault subscription for and receiving The Raconteurs’ Consolers of the Lonely reissue celebrating the 10th anniversary. Discovering more and more about Third Man and those involved make me wish I’d been here since the beginning. But, I’m looking forward to many more moments in the future. Thanks so much for all you do!
it’s gotta be my first time. RSD liquid filled record. i forget the year. but it was raining and i was unprepared for any of it. my plane landed, i went to walmart and bought a poncho, an umbrella (red and white striped) and a fold out chair. i sat in that rain for a bit before the kids in front of me who had a picnic style tent invited me over to get cover. i got my records (still got em too) and spent the next couple days partying in nashville with the people i met. i even went back to TMR to purchase Blunderbuss on its release day. it felt only appropriate. cheers
