BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Raconteurs

“(embargoed from sharing the title)” one-sided single

scums stats: WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?

Hard to believe I’m even doing one this week, but the collectibility has me all keyed up. Multiple covers? Multiple paper colors? Only given out to Ultra Ticket purchasers? SIGN ME UP.

Everybody is gonna want one, so let me just pre-emptively tell you…I don’t have any to spare!

You wanna place bets on the high price these reach on Discogs? Will anyone be able to collect ALL four?

Good luck to those trying, as you will need it.

You know, this song originally wasn’t going to be on the album. But Swank and I had to explain to the band how DAMN GOOD it was. It makes multiple statements that need to be made. The performance is tight…who even knew Brendan could DO that?

People who won't play the game the hard way, let’s do easy. Let’s give away a test pressing for commenters. You’ve got a week to get it in there. Tell me your favorite Third Man moment of the past ten years. I may use discretion or I may just pick a comment at random, so everyone has a chance.

watching the Raconteurs play “Keep On Trash” by the Go at TMR10. The Go rules and It’s perfect for the racs.

easily the TMR Cass Jack White show the night before the pizzarena show. I just finished my licensing exam and found out by the time I got home that I got my RN license. it was already an excellent day after months of grind. I decided to check TMR updates and there happened to be a secret show announced hours before. I called the Cass store front and asked what the chances were of getting a ticket if I made it there in 45 minutes while I was driving down 94. I made it, stood in line, got my face rocked off in a small space I’d been to numerous times before, picked up a red copy of Dead Leaves single and bought my tickets to the LCA show that night. now I can listen to the Vault release of that show and relive it anytime I need a boost. truly was one of the best weeks of my life.

Umm the bathroom! Seriously a toilet on the ceiling! That has got to be the most random photographed thing out there. Plus it’s the background on the singles is in the bathrooms. Too funny. Awesome.

Making it to Third Man in Nashville. Had been a bucket list thing for me for years. Finally making it down to see it at the beginning of this year was amazing.

Favorite moment was standing on the rail front and center in Vegas this last year, and seeing the look on Carla’s face when the whole floor started bouncing 3 inches. The drums were shaking, the keyboard was shaking. It was all thanks to “Steady As She Goes”. Such a perfect moment, even when I thought the house was literally going to come down.

I’m so psyched the Raconteurs are back in action.

I’m currently jamming to the most upbeat take of Johnny Cash that’s ever been recorded. Brian Owens took some moody shit and made it happy! My favourite TMR moment of the past year is “winning” the grand prize at Neptoon Records (Vancouver, BC), which got me in a draw to win a turn table (I did not win), second prize was an Over and Over and Over one sided tri colour (basically gold in Canada as we never get tris)…I wish I got second… But! then in the next couple months I won 2 more (real) things on the vault (BHR Test Pressing and the Brian Owens – Johnny Cash Covers Album I’m currently listening too). I’ve never been lucky, and the vault has made me feel lucky! I don’t have any tri colour 45s, but I am very happy with what the vault has given me!

My favorite thing is how it feels thr furst time i play a new or old or beloved TMR vinyl. The anticipation of the first note as the record starts to spin, fully knowing it will be awesome or TMR would not have it. 2001 i saw the stripes in NYC and it was everything. So raw – so perfect. I was never so happy before then. Now years later, life is so different – i have kids – a bunch of boys. They play all the TMR vinyl i have and we all dance around with abandon – like i did so so many TMR shows. My favorite thing is the music – and the wild raw freedom it brings. If i receive a record – i will play it loudly and often. It won’t ever be sold.

“The Wall” video. The look Jack gives you while you’re clapping is hilarious. I miss the RSD videos.

I don’t know if this is a moment or not but I was moved by Jacks remembrance of Dick Dale after his passing. Dick Dale was such a game changer and my mom used to go see him as she was a California beach girl. I don’t think many people had as heartfelt a tribute.

Jack’s mom introducing The Raconteurs at their first show in 8 years at the 10 year anniversary of TMR.
