BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Raconteurs

“(embargoed from sharing the title)” one-sided single

scums stats: WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?

Hard to believe I’m even doing one this week, but the collectibility has me all keyed up. Multiple covers? Multiple paper colors? Only given out to Ultra Ticket purchasers? SIGN ME UP.

Everybody is gonna want one, so let me just pre-emptively tell you…I don’t have any to spare!

You wanna place bets on the high price these reach on Discogs? Will anyone be able to collect ALL four?

Good luck to those trying, as you will need it.

You know, this song originally wasn’t going to be on the album. But Swank and I had to explain to the band how DAMN GOOD it was. It makes multiple statements that need to be made. The performance is tight…who even knew Brendan could DO that?

People who won't play the game the hard way, let’s do easy. Let’s give away a test pressing for commenters. You’ve got a week to get it in there. Tell me your favorite Third Man moment of the past ten years. I may use discretion or I may just pick a comment at random, so everyone has a chance.

WOW! Have not been able to get to 3rd man yet, one day I will make the trip! Hope whoever wins plays this, and doesn’t let it sit in a box or on a shelf. :-)

My favourite moment has to be the Freedom at 21 Flexi disc release via helium ballon. I live in the UK so never (really) had a chance of getting one but the thought that only a hand full could have been found makes it even more special. I remember it was April 1st and no one knew whether it was an April fools trick or not. What a way to release a single!

It’s 2.55am. I’ve just arrived at a Nashville Hotel from Australia via Las Vegas with my eyeballs dragging along behind me. Between tomorrow’s TMR10 show (no ultra), The Raconteurs show on Monday and the Sabotuers in Melbourne the following week, I think this moment is going to be slow 14 day ball tearer. Cant wait.

Favorite TMR moment is Vault Package #15 (Jack White and the Bricks Live on Garden Bowl Lanes w/7" demo of Steady As She Goes/Same Boy You’ve Always Known). It was the first Vault package I was subscribed to. I remember getting home from high school and playing it for the first time… I loved the demos from the 7" so much I hooked up my laptop to my turntable so I could get a digital copy of the Steady as She Goes demo to play at my local ballpark where I would sit in the press box and play music during town team games. Played it a lot that summer, just had that 45 on the turntable yesterday actually

My favorite TMR moment was scouring backwoods Alabama for balloons/records caught up in the pines. We never found any, but a damn good time was had while searching. Alternate favorite moment was catching Jack’s drumstick when the Dead Weather played Birmingham.

Since I live in Europe my favorite moment was in 2014. We were on a vacation in the US and also visited Nashville.Had been a dream for years to visit TMR.Nothing special going on there that day, but enjoyed our visit and bought a few records. Also did the URP tour.

My favorite TMR moment is from the Detroit store opening. I was waiting in line the night before with some friends during the grand opening party. A few of my friendly fellow fans and I found that the side door to the building was unlocked so we snuck into the party. We were already planning on sleeping on the sidewalk that night, so what was the worst that could happen? It was relatively uneventful because it was late in the night and the party was basically over but I got a picture with Lillie Mae and Jack White was still there. We probably shouldn’t have done that but it made for a good story.

My favorite TMR moment was when Jack hit the Blue Room stage as Artie Shaw blasts while smoking his cigarillo seeing the glowing red cherry amongst the dark blue tones of the surroundings on that crisp Friday March 2018 evening. Which in return became available in the vault that I can relive over and over and over. It was that moment of dark ambiance I remembered why I love TMR as much as I do. Aesthetically pleasing to say the very least.

My favorite Third Man moment was meeting Ben Blackwell today and talking about how I bought one of his copies of Tin Knocker’s Wind-Up Action! off Discogs. You’re a class act Ben, and you keep it real. Is this pandering?

I realize this may seem cliche considering the subject, but the best moment was finding out the Raconteurs are back after so long. They’re my favorite band of all time. I’ve never spent $60 faster than each time a vault package had something to do with them.
