The Raconteurs
“(embargoed from sharing the title)” one-sided single
scums stats: WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?
Hard to believe I’m even doing one this week, but the collectibility has me all keyed up. Multiple covers? Multiple paper colors? Only given out to Ultra Ticket purchasers? SIGN ME UP.
Everybody is gonna want one, so let me just pre-emptively tell you…I don’t have any to spare!
You wanna place bets on the high price these reach on Discogs? Will anyone be able to collect ALL four?
Good luck to those trying, as you will need it.
You know, this song originally wasn’t going to be on the album. But Swank and I had to explain to the band how DAMN GOOD it was. It makes multiple statements that need to be made. The performance is tight…who even knew Brendan could DO that?
People who won't play the game the hard way, let’s do easy. Let’s give away a test pressing for commenters. You’ve got a week to get it in there. Tell me your favorite Third Man moment of the past ten years. I may use discretion or I may just pick a comment at random, so everyone has a chance.
For me it was the launch of the Vault. It was this realization that ‘Hey, its not just the records at the store – there’s so much more locked up, gathering dust at the recording studio! Neat! …. Ohhh this stuff is now available for us to get a hold of?? Awesome!’
Sure other bands and subscription services have existed in the past but Thirdman somehow hit a unique combination of attributes that made it resonate with fans. It sure helped that the depth of music coming out of Jack’s own bands is deep and high quality, but add to that the plethora of affiliated acts and it makes for a lasting and expanding offering.
Our best memory was waiting in the snow outside of TMR Nashville 2 years ago, hoping to get one of the TMR tour tickets. We got the last ones, Angelina gave us the best behind the scenes tour ever, and my 10-year old Finn was gifted a TMR guitar strap, which we both still fight over today. The details, creativity, and vibe of TMR and the people behind it have really motivated Finn to stick with guitar, and we had a blast seeing Jack in San Diego together last year. Cheers TMR!
Early on in my TMR relationship, I was heading to Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores, AL for my brothers bachelor party. I was so excited the RRS was going to be there – I found them the night of the Thursday welcome party, and snagged a ton of cool stuff. I was so pumped and the records made it through several shows that night and back to the condo safely!
My favorite TMR moment is the reason I signed up for the “club”. The Sun label re-issues! I grew up listening to Johnny,Elvis, and Jerry etc. thank you mom. Everything else was “new” to me and re-inspired my love of music.Thank you Jack and TMR !!!!
From the early days of Third Man Records… the buzz and excitement around those Blue Series tricolors (50 of which you would put randomly into people’s orders)opening each parcel and hoping that it would contain a tricolor… and then one day it did!
10/10/12 Jack White in Jackson, TN. I had put my name in for early entry consideration for the show and to my surprise I was picked. I quickly bought some GA tickets, went and picked my brother up from highschool (it was his Freshman year, he didn’t know I was coming, and he actually let out a little cheer in the hall), and then drove two hours to the show. We were front row center, we had a great time, and I still have one of the show photographs from the website where you can clearly see us in the front row right behind Jack.
Maybe it’s just my current excitement, but my favorite has been when I heard the Raconteurs were getting back together and recording a new album.
I remember last year. Some friends and I were on our way to Victor Wooten’s camp out in Only. (I was traveling all the way from NJ by car) It was the day before my birthday and all I wanted to do was do the record booth. I go into the store and look around before stepping in. I look at the door and Alison Mosshart walks on through the entrance. I was the only one, besides employees, to recognize her. Good times, good times…
my favorite TMR moment: when you send me this 45 !!!!
Dex Romwbere Duo Live at the Blue Room. I had moved to East Nash from Murfreesboro less than a week before the show. My roommates mentioned it as “The New Jack White Venue”. We all hopped in the car and went to the show. It was a really amazing experience. The label/store itself was pretty new and we didn’t know what the expect when we showed up to the venue. Turned out to the be the first of many amazing experiences I would have at the Blue Room. I’ve seen some of my favorite bands (Earth, Boris, Woods, Shabazz Palaces, Broken Social Scene, Parquet Courts) on that stage! I’ve been lucky enough to attend some amazing moments like Wanda Jackson, Jack White’s First show playing material from Boarding House Reach, and tonight I’ll be seeing the Raconteurs in the Blue Room. I feel very lucky to live in Nashville. The venue once referred to as “Jack White’s venue” has grown into a truly badass space where some up and coming/niche bands (Nots, Golden Pelicans, Coupler) get to share the spotlight and attention with some of the biggest music acts in the world (Jack White, Raconteurs, Dead Weather). The amount of passion that goes into the curation of live and physical releases is palatable and infectious. It’s been awesome seeing the label evolve into a great vision celebrating current and past artists that just so happens to be run by Jack White & The Bens. I had no idea what to expect when walking into that first Blue Room show. Third Man still doesn’t disappoint, and always pulls out great surprises.
