BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Raconteurs

“(embargoed from sharing the title)” one-sided single

scums stats: WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?

Hard to believe I’m even doing one this week, but the collectibility has me all keyed up. Multiple covers? Multiple paper colors? Only given out to Ultra Ticket purchasers? SIGN ME UP.

Everybody is gonna want one, so let me just pre-emptively tell you…I don’t have any to spare!

You wanna place bets on the high price these reach on Discogs? Will anyone be able to collect ALL four?

Good luck to those trying, as you will need it.

You know, this song originally wasn’t going to be on the album. But Swank and I had to explain to the band how DAMN GOOD it was. It makes multiple statements that need to be made. The performance is tight…who even knew Brendan could DO that?

People who won't play the game the hard way, let’s do easy. Let’s give away a test pressing for commenters. You’ve got a week to get it in there. Tell me your favorite Third Man moment of the past ten years. I may use discretion or I may just pick a comment at random, so everyone has a chance.

Calling in sick two days of work so I could drive in from St. Louis to see Jack at the Blue Room. (Prior to the boarding house reach tour) Show was absolutely amazing. Wishing I could see the Raconteurs tonight or tomorrow in there, but I’m low on sick days. Haha. Luckily I drove in for the Ten Year show which was also amazing. Unfortunately, It was a GA ticket because I was 7th in line when the Ultra Tickets sold out. I almost cried.

One of the best nights I’ve ever had. Amazing to share that night with Jack and the amazing band. it was truly something special.

oops! it posted before I was done! I was at the stage for the Chicago Theatre show in 2014. no rail. no barrier. elbows in the stage. I was in front of Jack and Daru and witnessed the best live show I’ve ever seen. over three hours, 34 songs and the whole band was on fire. Jack came out with a Cubs Jersey and kick me sign on his back. He laughed with us and then from the moment he started playing I could tell it was going to be a sweaty, blurry, frenzied, fucking crazy amazing night.. And it was. I’ve never experienced energy like that before, it was like the entire building has risen from the ground. Jack jumped into the pit standing only give feet from me, playing the shit out of his guitar whole those around him stood smiling and slack-jawed. He played Blue Orchid for the first time in like 7 years. He played Rose with a Broken Neck, he covered Robert Johnson, one of my all time favs. He played Bob Dylan. He was simply amazing. t

Favorite moment was donating blood, winning a tour of Third Man Records by Mr. Blackwell, and then getting a White Denim black and blue as a party favor. You are excellent sir!

Visiting TMR Nashville for the first time about 4 years ago. I was in town for a wedding and and my cousins said they were going over to check out TMR as they had a friend that worked there. Turns out my cousins grew up with Ben Swank! Ben was great, gave us a full tour of the place and even gave us a onesie for the new baby we had on the way! It was truly an amazing experience.

I’ve only been to the Nashville shop once, but it was a great weekend traveling to see Jack on the pre-Blunderbuss release tour in Memphis. It was a thrilling adventure for the fiance and I. We even snagged a leftover poster from Jack’s first solo performance in the Blue Room. Such a great memory. Planning a trip back down that way as I type this.

July 23rd, 2014 Jack White at Chicago Theatre. I was in the small pit at that show and won Early Entry. I was at the stage

Favorite third man moment was visiting the Nashville storefront for the second time. I was in high school and at the time was very inspired by Jack wearing his blue suits. I couldn’t afford a suit like that, so my take on it was a navy blue blazer, khakis and dress shoes. Not even close I know. When we got to the front door, Jack Lawrence and Swank pulled up, and Swank got out of the car, had one look at me and said, “look, the young republicans club just rolled up.” I was somewhere between insulted and honored.
