BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Raconteurs

“(embargoed from sharing the title)” one-sided single

scums stats: WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?

Hard to believe I’m even doing one this week, but the collectibility has me all keyed up. Multiple covers? Multiple paper colors? Only given out to Ultra Ticket purchasers? SIGN ME UP.

Everybody is gonna want one, so let me just pre-emptively tell you…I don’t have any to spare!

You wanna place bets on the high price these reach on Discogs? Will anyone be able to collect ALL four?

Good luck to those trying, as you will need it.

You know, this song originally wasn’t going to be on the album. But Swank and I had to explain to the band how DAMN GOOD it was. It makes multiple statements that need to be made. The performance is tight…who even knew Brendan could DO that?

People who won't play the game the hard way, let’s do easy. Let’s give away a test pressing for commenters. You’ve got a week to get it in there. Tell me your favorite Third Man moment of the past ten years. I may use discretion or I may just pick a comment at random, so everyone has a chance.

My favorite Third Man moment is the pressing plant opening in Detroit. I’m a Detroit area native and it was amazing to see Third Man Records, Third Man Pressing and now Third Man Mastering help revitalize Detroit. Detroit……home of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Home of Third Man.

I was going to say my first visit to Third Man Detroit for the opening, but actually it is my second trip there a few weeks later. At that visit I was able to bring my daughter and introduce her to the magic of Third Man.

My favorite Third Man moment would be a tough one. So many good memories. I was stoked when Sleep signed because I’ve always been a big fan of their. I ended up driving from Jacksonville to Gainesville to get the record store exclusive split Sciences. Since I had to work I got there in the evening and ended up with the last copy. PS. I had a blast at TMR 10th anniversary. Stood in front of the DJ booth for most of the show. Had a great view of the bands!!! Here’s to another ten years and congratulations on becoming a co-owner!!!

Honestly best moment was the fastest record made. Records are such a physical aspect but to see it in action with all the parts in motion to make something that I know to this day has people still smiling is magical. It was a whimsical experience and one that shows us why it’s called engineering a track.

My favorite moment was yesterday at the 10th anniversary party. I took my 11 year old daughter with me. It was her first live concert. She loves Brendan Benson and listens to him daily. Just to turn and look at the magic coming to life in front of her eyes and seeing her bounce to the oh so familiar racs songs she has heard her whole life. Just to have her turn her head and smile at me, I cried some tears yesterday. To share these special moments with my daughter listening to the racs together like we did when she was a baby, it was a dream come true. Thank you TMR! Thank you!

The best memory was day one when the craziness of the Vault was first announced. I was a 23 year-old public school teacher then, and I’d saved all my cash from my first year of teaching to go visit my cousin in Japan that summer. Right before I’m about to leave, I see this announcement for something called the Vault. Exclusive vinyl? I’d never even bought a record, let alone owned a turn table. I had to make the decision before I left, but was unsure if I should be purchasing anything like this before my big trip. On an impulse I signed up and decided I could figure out how to buy all the equipment when I returned. It was the Dead Weather Outside/Forever My Queen 7 in. that sealed the deal. The Vault was the catalyst that started my love of vinyl collecting, and I cherish my record collection today. Ten years later, and I’ve never missed a Vault package. The entire experience has been a great source of joy in my life, and even when times are tight, my wife has been so generous to indulge me in my Third Man love. We were there last night at the 10th anniversary party, and I got chills being in the blue room for the first time and seeing how much TMR has grown. Thanks so much for all of the wonderful milestones over the past decade.

There are too many to count so I will go with the most recent. Attending the 10 Year Anniversary Party yesterday was such an awesome experience. It was really cool to see how TMR has brought so many people together over the years.

I hope this qualifies as a “TMR Moment,” but my favorite was when Jack White did the surprise show at that High School on the Boarding House Reach tour. Such a badass thing to do, and seeing those kids slowly but surely lose their minds over the music was incredible. Absolutely my favorite moment.

10 years gone, to re-live, capture, record, film, tweet or not to tweet, comments written or red all this and more in your head. Pick it out, like digging for gold, ancient markings transmits memories of old. Life on earth before you were dead, past down future up, I forget. To have life’s door open to us only to have it slammed in our face. Don’t cry don’t smile just stand in exile. Words written in a once empty space just like your mind memories nuff said. By Dudley Downer ??.
