BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Raconteurs

“(embargoed from sharing the title)” one-sided single

scums stats: WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?

Hard to believe I’m even doing one this week, but the collectibility has me all keyed up. Multiple covers? Multiple paper colors? Only given out to Ultra Ticket purchasers? SIGN ME UP.

Everybody is gonna want one, so let me just pre-emptively tell you…I don’t have any to spare!

You wanna place bets on the high price these reach on Discogs? Will anyone be able to collect ALL four?

Good luck to those trying, as you will need it.

You know, this song originally wasn’t going to be on the album. But Swank and I had to explain to the band how DAMN GOOD it was. It makes multiple statements that need to be made. The performance is tight…who even knew Brendan could DO that?

People who won't play the game the hard way, let’s do easy. Let’s give away a test pressing for commenters. You’ve got a week to get it in there. Tell me your favorite Third Man moment of the past ten years. I may use discretion or I may just pick a comment at random, so everyone has a chance.

The announcement of The Vault has to be everyone’s best moment but aside from that it has to be the phone/ camera free gigs. An unspoilt view and a total focus on the gig is “The gift that keeps on giving “

Fastest record release, watching the video of Jack recording, pressing and then selling that record was amazing, the excitement and joy evident from all involved is highly contagious.

The 10th anniversary party/festival/concert was fantastic!!! Love the vinyl that came with the Ultra ticket. You guys are awesome! I drove down from Detroit 8 hours but was glad I did, even though I got a flat tire on the way in Louisville and had to laugh at both the tow truck driver getting lost on the way to the tire repair place and the tire repair guy complaining about his sore back.$40 for a used tire not a bad deal. Love the Farmer’s Jack t-shirt Ben! I remember back in the day getting my Mountain Dew from FJ’s. Congrats on 10 years and hopefully many more to come.

My favorite Third Man moment is finding out about the Vault and of course joining. So many good moments when the package arrives here in Norway.

BTW I’m so stoked they covered DONOVAN! Been thinking I was weird for having all his albums and still listening to them. But now I know at least a few other people are weird too.

We’re Going To Be Friends book signing; After Jack signed her book he held his hand out for my daughter to shake and said, “Thank you for coming. I like your shirt”. Her eyes bugged out, she put her hand in his and froze. (he managed to politely detach eventually) I got a decent pic of it, it’s by her door and to this day she stops before bed to draw a heart around his face. (awwwww) TMR thanks so much for doing all these crazy wonderful things. What a dull boring world it would be without you.

My favorite Vault moment…………….well it would have to be hands down………….ICARUS on July 30th – 28,000 meters above the Earth was a playing turntable. How epic! A song by John Boswell, Glorious Dawn, mixed over Carl Sagen. If it couldn’t be much cooler than this. TMR sent me a mystery gift with some 45’s I spun on a roulette wheel. The mystery gift was an ID badge pass to the launch of the “ICARUS – The First Record in Space” that I display in my classroom of middle schoolers. It has become a conversation piece and a lesson. The video is so glorious that I turn up the sound as it plays out Ball and a Biscuit. Students usually bring it up every once in a while when we discuss distance. Thanks, TMR for such influential knowledge.

When TMR picked up Margo Price and Midwest Farmer’s Daughter. Price is an inspiration to women and men alike. She faces her own demons and learns and grows from them. Her music reflects her challenges and triumphs in the spirit of country music. TMR is lucky to work with such a gal.
