BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Raconteurs

“(embargoed from sharing the title)” one-sided single

scums stats: WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?

Hard to believe I’m even doing one this week, but the collectibility has me all keyed up. Multiple covers? Multiple paper colors? Only given out to Ultra Ticket purchasers? SIGN ME UP.

Everybody is gonna want one, so let me just pre-emptively tell you…I don’t have any to spare!

You wanna place bets on the high price these reach on Discogs? Will anyone be able to collect ALL four?

Good luck to those trying, as you will need it.

You know, this song originally wasn’t going to be on the album. But Swank and I had to explain to the band how DAMN GOOD it was. It makes multiple statements that need to be made. The performance is tight…who even knew Brendan could DO that?

People who won't play the game the hard way, let’s do easy. Let’s give away a test pressing for commenters. You’ve got a week to get it in there. Tell me your favorite Third Man moment of the past ten years. I may use discretion or I may just pick a comment at random, so everyone has a chance.

Halifax Show in November 2018. After signing up for the Vault 35 for BHR tour and seeing Jack in Toronto June of 2018, I knew I had to see him live again. After going back home to Newfoundland, a few months passed and a release for a Canadian wide tour happened. Closest venue: Halifax, NS. I book my flights and got my tickets. After a couple hours waiting in line, the doors opened and before I knew it, I was standing front row. Before we knew it, the last song was coming up. Jack takes a step back from the mic and rehearses in his head over and over lyrics to a song which nobody knows what’s next. He continues to rehearse while fidgeting his fingers a bit, takes a deep breath and with all eyes on him, he steps to the mic and starts with, “Oh the year was 1778…” The crowd goes crazy as he decided to sing a traditional East Coast song. Jack continues to sing the entire song, which is 7-10 verses and takes the crowd on an amazing journey for it all. To experience such a once in a lifetime thing was pretty special for me. It was then that I was so thankful to have been able to be a part of that moment. Fast forward to 2019. I now live in the Yukon and know there’s a raconteurs tour. Today, I get an email saying they’ll be in Vancouver. The entire year and a bit as a member of TMR Vault has been fantastic and I cannot wait to see the Raconteurs in July to experience what I can only imagine will be another amazing performance. Thanks for giving me, and many others, the experiences that will never be forgotten.

Shortly after moving to Nashville in 2011, I bought a Jukebox on craigslist. After posting a photo, Third Man responded. Turns out, I bought Ben Swanks old Jukebox. Its my most cherished possession to this day.

Cant believe its been ten years.Signed up from vault number one. So glad I ordered two of the icky thump mono discs. One to play and one to keep sealed with sticker over the openings. The best things is getting limited stuff without having to pay silly money on ebay and discogs. Hears to the next 10 years and beyond. One day I hope collect every issue and catlalog them.

My favourite moment was opening my first every Vault package. I remember just running my hand over the smooth finish of the beautifully printed cardboard, finding it hard to believe where it came from. A little piece of TMR, in my own hands. It sounds lame, but it’s a moment I won’t forget.

Finding out that Anthony Bourdain was doing a show on Nashville that included Third Man! Partying and interviewing like no one else can. And then finding out that the whole discraceland show would be released via vault. Double sweets!!! I’ve been a member since day one and you guys have done so many incredible things and leaped so may bounds. But this event is seated deep in my heart. I loved all that mr. bourdain brought into my living room and I love all the great treats you bring to us every 3 months. R.I.P Anthony. Keep Rocking it Third Man!!!

The dream I had last night when I won a Raconteurs test pressing, hand delivered by members of the Third Man Monkey Band.

When I ordered Lord Send Me an Angel from the Third Man store a few years ago, someone drew a smiling TV with angel wings on the cardboard insert. That was really cool.
