THIRD MAN RECORDS PRESENTS FIRST COMMERCIAL VINYL RELEASE OF PIVOTAL WHITE STRIPES' ALBUM FOR RECORD STORE DAY 2015

Third Man Records is so pleased to announce that the day we have all been waiting for has finally arrived. But how will this sound? I’ve heard the original promo vinyl for GBMS sounded like a CD.

@destijl my local shop will probably only get one copy, maybe two, and there are about 5 or 6 of us regulars who are TMR fans and he knows it. It’ll be first come first serve. I won’t complain if I don’t get it, but it’s always a competition. I have great rapport with my local shop, and I shop there weekly, but he can’t afford a lot of the premium rsd stuff and there’s a lot of us who want it. So I am worried I won’t get one and I only shop local. We all have a mutual respect for vinyl and each other, but I find your statement insulting to the reason we’re here.

Those prices will go down. As much as I love TWS and JW in general, they and him are not Beatles or LZ big. The prices will go down as those copies were mainly valuable for their rarity. The cover art was a blown up picture that looked terrible and the pressing was not the best. That was why they were going to rerecord it in NZ. Still would be cool to own but those $500-$1000 will go down by 50% at least.

I have 2 RS near me, one (bigger store)has a line of about 50 by 7am, the other (smaller)has about 5 people by 10. Usually Third Man make more than enough copies to go around, even if its limited. I know where I will be 4/18/15.

Hey, Auntie Thinkingcat! I need a backup wakeup call. Will you pm ding my phone at 6am on RSD so I can be sure to be first in line? :-D

@destijl Some people might not have money to go that often and many stores won’t do that for RSD. My store won’t do that for anyone, it’s first come, first serve. My cousin is friend’s with the owner, managers, and some of the employees of one of our local record stores and they won’t even save one for her on RSD

I hope I can get there early enough to get a copy. When I got the Elephant RSD reissue two years ago there were only two left and luckily someone earlier than me in the line who we had been talking to saw that there were only a few left and grabbed me one and gave it to me as I got in. If not, I guess I’ll check at the other one but I doubt they’ll have too many copies or any at all. I can’t believe it’s getting released on vinyl though, I’ve been waiting for forever

Everyone who is worried about getting the limited RSD release of GBMS obviously doesn’t buy records very often or support their local stores. Even if my local only gets one copy then it will already have been put aside for me. Why? Because I shop there every week and have built up a relationship with them over the years. They also know that I am a MASSIVE White Stripes fan. Remember RSD is a celebration of independent record shops, it is their Christmas. Vinyl is for ever not just for Christmas.

@JF Kuehnen ok, since we have here a contest who’s the unluckiest Vault member. I live in Ukraine, the closest brick and mortar record shop that participates in RSD is literally hundreds (more than 400) miles away. Let me check my options – Moscow (2h flight or 15 by train), Warsaw (2 h flight, visa, or 24 h by bus) – these are the closest. I have this tradition to travel for RSD, this is my holidays planned long before the event, I know that on second Saturday of April I have plans and I will hit the road if I can. Two years ago I made it to UK to stand in line for 4 hours in the morning to get my Elephant RSD. Did I get it? No, I didn’t. It was long gone before I entered the doors. Was I throwing tantrums? No, I wasn’t. I bought other releases that were available among those I had in my list. Last year I couldn’t go abroad for RSD, I ended up buying some old records at the flea market in my hood, just because I couldn’t afford anything better. Was I unhappy? Hell no. This year I go to Amsterdam. Will I get GBMS? I hope so, but there is no guarantee even if I camp the night before. But I know for sure, if you need something you will find the way to get it without sounding petty and entitled. Just like I got my RSD Elephant – you talk to people, ask friends, check eBay, email RSD stores asking for the left overs and you definitely can find it for a good price. I am sure, making friends here in Vault and being optimistic really works wonders without being demanding that everything is to be exclusively delivered to your doorsteps. Really, talk to people here, ask who can hook you up with GBMS copy. People here are really nice.
