The White Stripes
Elephant UHQR
scum stats: limited to 10,000 copies
I am not an audiophile. I am fairly certain that my ears are fried enough that I could never BE an audiophile.
Nevertheless, I helped guide the White Stripes into this realm with the 20th anniversary UHQR 2xLP 45rpm cut of Elephant. By all accounts I've read, every audiophile who's laid ears on this record is beyond impressed with the sound here. I am unsure if I've ever been party to such a universally acclaimed release ever.
There's nothing more really for me to say about that album that I didn't already say in the liner notes on this version. I'm EXTREMELY proud of the notes and maybe one day I'll share it on the blog so that everyone can read. But for now, they're behind the boxset paywall. That being said, the $150 price tag on this puppy is absolutely prohibitive.
(I don't even have a copy of the reel-to-reel tape version of this yet and don't even have a way to play it...but I'm still wanting/needing it.)
In 2007 I was excited to see the White Stripes at ACL music festival but it was not meant to be.
In 2009 I was visiting Third Man in Nashville before Bonnaroo when Jack walked out of the front door and remembering the song “Take, take, take” I decided to play it super cool and just said “Hey Jack” and replied just as cool. I was trying to keep his profile low key so he could get to his all black Mercedes Benz that was running in the parking lot. I assumed he was busy. Just as he got in the car a girl screamed for him at the top of her lungs. Jack looked straight at me and I motioned for him to go, go, go. He smiled at that encounter. It was a great moment and I was proud to not have stopped him and ask for a picture or autograph. This album would be cherished on my Audio Technica turntable and Edifier speakers without ever being sold out of my collection. Thank you for reading my story Mr. Blackwell, I have wanted to tell it to you for quite some time.
Winning the Jack White audiophile record giveaway would be like acquiring the magical chalice of sonic awesomeness. I Picture myself on a musical adventure, riding the waves of pure audio bliss, as if Jack himself hand-delivered an ethereal concert experience in my living room. I’m going for it and hope to snatch this audiophile marvel and let my ears bask in the delightful symphony of jackpot vibes!
It looks like it needs a good home safe & sound in Australia!
‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’
The material on 3L3PHANT is top notch- and it would be foolish to not desire the best possible issue of this remarkable album. This release bridges the generation gap between my young daughter and I – who have spent numerous hours singing together to this album.
I would enjoy having this in my collection and would spend long hours admiring it’s beauty!
Well, I do have many different copies of “Elephant” and would love to have this one to add to my collection. My daughter would love me to get it since she will, one day, inherit my basement load of vinyl. As to my audio system, I do not have the best, but it does what it was meant to do. I am digitizing 78RPM discs onto my hard drives just in case something happens to them. I Have two Audio-Technics set up to play 78RPM (yes, you can still find the needles). They are run through a MSI gaming computer set up to work and not to game. I do have a turntable set up for LPs and 45s as well. I do love it when my daughter spend time with me listening to the oldies and even some of the new stuff. She recently brought me in an Archgoat disc and has a date to have a Carnifex – Necromanteum autographed for me. She really wants me to get something from the Dirtbombs. I turned her onto your music the other day when we were discussing great music and she really was into it. Ben, when is TMR doing a release from them??!!!
I’ll never forget April 1, 2003. I woke up and told my parents I was heading to school, but first period roll call would find me absent. Instead I skipped school and drove two hours to Nashville to purchase Elephant on CD and vinyl. My friends and I listened to the album over and over that evening. I tell my kids that story now when that same record is on our turntable or every time my 13 year old plays Seven Nation Army on the guitar. It’d be great to tell that story (again!) listening in audiophile glory:-) Either way, UHQR or original red and white vinyl, this album is still amazing 20 years later. If I win I promise I will tell my parents the truth about that day…. maybe.
Argh! I knew it! 🤦♀️😂😂😂
Gah! I’ve tried time and time again to submit my witty comment but for some reason I can’t get past the reCAPTCHA gods! I promise I AM NOT A ROBOT! And yes, I understand that stating ‘I am not a robot’ makes me sound even more like a robot. I bet this comment will get through though, and be my TMR legacy 😂. Australian internet: 0/10
