BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK + GIVEAWAY!

The White Stripes

Elephant UHQR

scum stats: limited to 10,000 copies

I am not an audiophile. I am fairly certain that my ears are fried enough that I could never BE an audiophile.

Nevertheless, I helped guide the White Stripes into this realm with the 20th anniversary UHQR 2xLP 45rpm cut of Elephant. By all accounts I've read, every audiophile who's laid ears on this record is beyond impressed with the sound here. I am unsure if I've ever been party to such a universally acclaimed release ever.

There's nothing more really for me to say about that album that I didn't already say in the liner notes on this version. I'm EXTREMELY proud of the notes and maybe one day I'll share it on the blog so that everyone can read. But for now, they're behind the boxset paywall. That being said, the $150 price tag on this puppy is absolutely prohibitive.

(I don't even have a copy of the reel-to-reel tape version of this yet and don't even have a way to play it...but I'm still wanting/needing it.)

So I'm giving away a copy here. Post in the comments why YOU should have this audiophile record. Maybe it's a listing of your stereo rig. Maybe your rig is shit but you just KNOW that you'll appreciate the lush packaging here. Maybe it's a sob story. Maybe it's just a nonsense whatever limerick. Winner decided solely by me, you need to get the comment in before midnight central time November 2nd. Hop to it.

Well, let’s see. I have a pair of 15” Cerwin Vega’s and since the new Vault is Las Vegas and that sounds like Vega’s, there’s one reason. My kids name is Jack and he is autistic. he loves music so much and loves to watch me play record and show him the colored ones ( me doing my part as a parent to raise him right on vinyl) that’s another. Most of all I’d love to just win a TMR contest for once. Plus I don’t have 150 to spend on getting it either! So that’s the best I can do. I’d also love a chance to come see the “Behind the scenes of the Nashville store next time I’m there! Thanks and Good Luck to all!

I don’t know who this band “UHQR” is, but I’m willing to give it a spin on the ol’ turntable

Yo!!!

I just returned to the vault for the Stripes, and I’ve spent just enough money on my equipment to hear the difference and never damage the grooves!

Modest setup
Technics SL-1950
Audio Technica brown shibatu cartridge
Yamaha RX-v663 inherited from my father in law
V90-LPS by musical fidelity preamp

How spooky would it be to win!?!
Very spooky to me.

One time Jack hit me with a line drive guitar pick flick.
Peace!

I can offer to trade copies of my master tapes of the audience recordings I made in the 1990s of great bands like MBV, Redd Kross and Dinosaur Jr?

Oh hi! My dogs (GMan and GBean) who are so rad (and still rock the TMR lightning bolt leashes), love The White Stripes! They have been beggin’ to hear this pressing on my very humble stereo system (while they play with their TMR plush records) in our tiny studio apartment in downtown Saint Paul, MN where we can still smell a faint whiff of our TWS peppermint air freshener! Oh, they are Italian Greyhounds too! They definitely don’t wanna go outside in this (dead) weather. Can we just stay inside and listen to this wonderful version of this wonderful record?!

Mauricio R.

What’s that?

I’d love to get a copy for my brother. He would appreciate the sound!!

I just want it. Sounds like a great thing to put into my ear holes

The Sun Rose
sounds of birds chirping, engines burning, tires turning ,
My head rose
I pondered and posed
Not exactly the same but pretty close
Glued and stuck, what the fuck
Yanked and yucked
I thought I’d figure it out
Now, not so much
