The White Stripes
Elephant UHQR
scum stats: limited to 10,000 copies
I am not an audiophile. I am fairly certain that my ears are fried enough that I could never BE an audiophile.
Nevertheless, I helped guide the White Stripes into this realm with the 20th anniversary UHQR 2xLP 45rpm cut of Elephant. By all accounts I've read, every audiophile who's laid ears on this record is beyond impressed with the sound here. I am unsure if I've ever been party to such a universally acclaimed release ever.
There's nothing more really for me to say about that album that I didn't already say in the liner notes on this version. I'm EXTREMELY proud of the notes and maybe one day I'll share it on the blog so that everyone can read. But for now, they're behind the boxset paywall. That being said, the $150 price tag on this puppy is absolutely prohibitive.
(I don't even have a copy of the reel-to-reel tape version of this yet and don't even have a way to play it...but I'm still wanting/needing it.)
I’ll just say “Please…Please may I have this copy of Elephant?” Thank you for your consideration.
I really really want it.
I have decent “mi-fi,” rig by audiophile standards, Rogue Cronus Magum II amp, Rega RP8 table and Vandersteen 3 speakers currently hooked up. I find this particular record to be a very odd choice for the full audiophile treatment. It’s not that it was recorded poorly, but I think the whole vibe behind it is the exact opposite of the usual “audiophile grade,” recordings.
I like this record, It changed my life
It even impressed my stoical wife
It looks super cool
It’s making me drool
to own it would be really tight
I’ve been collecting so many records for the past seven years. I’ve collected so many Third Man records rarities and various pressings of the same album. I always like to archive these records. Not just because to play music, but to preserve the music at the same time. I currently have three pressings of Elephant. 2022 United Pressing, 20th Anniversary colored vinyl, and the Elephant Mono pressing. It would be such an honor to own an audiophile version of Elephant. It’s forever a classic album.
Before this moment of first post nonsense,
The White Stripes brought rhythmic conscience,
With Jack’s guitar strumming,
And Meg’s drumming humming,
Their sound became pure sonic essence.
