BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK + GIVEAWAY!

The White Stripes

Elephant UHQR

scum stats: limited to 10,000 copies

I am not an audiophile. I am fairly certain that my ears are fried enough that I could never BE an audiophile.

Nevertheless, I helped guide the White Stripes into this realm with the 20th anniversary UHQR 2xLP 45rpm cut of Elephant. By all accounts I've read, every audiophile who's laid ears on this record is beyond impressed with the sound here. I am unsure if I've ever been party to such a universally acclaimed release ever.

There's nothing more really for me to say about that album that I didn't already say in the liner notes on this version. I'm EXTREMELY proud of the notes and maybe one day I'll share it on the blog so that everyone can read. But for now, they're behind the boxset paywall. That being said, the $150 price tag on this puppy is absolutely prohibitive.

(I don't even have a copy of the reel-to-reel tape version of this yet and don't even have a way to play it...but I'm still wanting/needing it.)

So I'm giving away a copy here. Post in the comments why YOU should have this audiophile record. Maybe it's a listing of your stereo rig. Maybe your rig is shit but you just KNOW that you'll appreciate the lush packaging here. Maybe it's a sob story. Maybe it's just a nonsense whatever limerick. Winner decided solely by me, you need to get the comment in before midnight central time November 2nd. Hop to it.

I need this because it doesn’t matter if it’s audiophile or not. The most important thing with this one is, you have to play it really LOUD! Which I will do of course!! Top on my list of best records of all time. Thanks a lot for a chance to have this.

I’d like to get this for my dear wife, a huge fan, to listen to & enjoy. She hasn’t much time left to live now (Leukemia) and something such as this would really help lift her spirits. God bless.

Webster’s Dictionary defines audiophile as…

please can I have it?!

Of course you don’t have to choose me, but it would be a lot cooler if you did.

I hid inside my closet although no one was looking for me. I’d chosen midnight, so darkness was in and out. I placed my earphones , pushed play, I was on my way. The earth was 1973 years old, to my 13. Looked for center stage inside my brain. Just relax dude it’s not on you. The sound of music too my ears the savage beast, healed. Oh shit here comes the sun.

I would do a sound comparison between this Audiophile copy, the Vault Mono Elephant, and the Stereo Elephant I have in my collection. Who knows, maybe I have the ears of an Audiophile. (Slight ringing not withstanding.) While not top notch, I can say my gear will play the differences between all three just fine. For example, my British Original copy of Piper at the Gates of Dawn sounds MUCH different than my ’80’s Canadian Reprint copy. (Denon TT, NAD Amplifier, Cambridge Speaker system.) As I spot differences, I would invite friends into my listening space and share the differences as well.

You know, Ben, all I can say is that I’d really like to have this in my collection. It would be loved, played and enjoyed. And, I can make this promise: If the cops are ever called because I’ve turned it up too loud for the neighbors to enjoy, then I will be sure to get photos and post them here. It’s a great album, even though I still can’t find the elephant depicted on the cover. Thanks!
