Vault Package #19

Vault Package #19

Do you like the White Stripes? Do you like experiments? Do you like the Vault? Do you like combining all three? We do. For our 19th installment of the Vault, we're doing something we've never done before. Something that Vault members have been clamoring for…the exclusive, limited, colored vinyl edition of a record. As you probably know, TMR tries to release a limited version of every record we do. That limited edition is usually available only at certain locations or stores, while the black vinyl version is kept in print forever.

This package will consist of limited colored vinyl pressings of all of the White Stripes singles from their album Elephant. These include…

"Seven Nation Army"

"I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself"

"The Hardest Button to Button"

"There's No Home For You Here"

The b-sides consist of covers of some of Detroit's most pre-eminent artists in 2003…

"Good to Me" written by Brendan Benson and Jason Falkner and originally released on Benson's 2002 album Lapalco.

"Who's to Say…" written by Dan Miller and released by his outfit Blanche in 2003 on their album If We Can't Trust the Doctors…

"St. Ides of March" written by the Soledad Brothers and released on their self-titled album of 2000.

As well as a White Stripes live medley of "I Fought Piranhas / Let's Build a Home" recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York.

Each of these tracks has been remastered from the original analog sources, and in the case of "…March" and "Piranhas" where there were no analog masters, we used only the finest digital files that could withstand sitting unused on a hard drive for over ten years.

The artwork on all the singles has been tidied up, spell-checked and given that special Third Man "je ne sais quoi"

"There's No Home For You Here", which was originally coupled with a generic company sleeve, now has stunning new artwork. It looks electrifying!

And these sleeves FEEL amazing. Employing a process called (we're not making this up) "soft touch aqueous coating" each of these glue-pocket sleeves feels like a hybrid between rubber and lambskin. It's difficult to describe, but immediately noticeable and amazing in person. Each record will be pressed on clear vinyl with with an added vinyl highlight color insertion of either red, black or white. For "There's No Home…" all three of those colors will be added to clear vinyl, to make something truly exciting. All of this will be housed in a custom-made telescoping box, so that these singles can forever live together with distinction in your record collection. Later in 2014 each of the singles will be available individually, on black vinyl, with no box, to the general public.

SIGN UP HERE. Deadline to sign-up for this package is January 31st at 7pm CST.

Im still musing on this… when reading the introductory pitch I got this distinct CHECK YES or NO feel to the presentation which made me laugh…. Apparently there are some old school vaulties who have had such good fortune in the super generous days gone by to have built up a sense or need for releases to be over the top surprises with a lions share of loot…. As a vaultie who has seen more than a few releases I find the offer to be solid form and content regardless of previous comparisons and thus am well pleased… to be honest I find some of the suggestions for unreleased material to hold merit even while I sense some sour grapes given what has been rolled out in the past year alone…. but more to the point I think we should never underestimate the invention or the predilection for novelty in the TMR corridors of whimsy which toss random things into a box or envelope from time to time as a matter of real fan appreciation… that having been said I’m not sure how many of you got coal for Christmas in your stockings but why not bring more of these good ideas to the table like the film or the moldarama Topsy idea just to see if we as fans can spark a few of those connections under the distributers cap that might have built up too much dross or maybe be relaying something bigger just off in the wings…. So… yeah…Lets prime the pump but not flood the engine…

I will say this, I like the fact that the vault is stretching out a little bit and trying something new. This is much more interesting than sticking with the “LP, single, novelty item” format. Maybe this is an indication that in the future our vault packages could contain ANYTHING!

Ya I miss the singles collections too, those were cool.

This makes me miss the days when we got a different kind of singles collection in our first-quarter Vault package.

Just came online to check out the new record and I have to admit that I wasn’t thrilled.
For me its just that I don’t get around to playing 45’s much preferring the longer play time of albums so I would of liked something like a double live album or even the GBMS album that some have been requesting(in mono).
I don’t think I would have purchased this in the store but I will be getting it and I’m sure that I will like it but I’m also sure it will be my least favorite package and I’ve been a member since the beginning.

my materialistic self has had an epiphany. I don’t believe the one who dies with the most toys, wins. in the last few years, I have liquidated most of my special things, I don’t want to be overloaded with stuff anymore. stuff to me, does not equal happiness. I’d rather maybe, fly somewhere and experience something beautiful, jack’s next solo tour maybe, than spend all my money on stuff I already have. doesn’t mean its not beautiful, it is, sure it is! but I am going to have to bow out this time around. the incredible willie package, where little treasures kept falling out, felt like Christmas morning! and the racs live? getouttaheyah! those two packages are pretty hard to follow. I do love y’all, you know that! just can’t get on board with this one. we can still be friends though. it’s not you it’s me. sniffle promised myself I wasn’t gonna cry…;-)

Wow, Brendan Stewart, FYI – you’ve garnered several admirers out in the ether. And puh-leeze, those of you telling others what their TMR experience should be about – get off it already.

If you don’t like what’s being sold, don’t buy it. It’s your choice to be here. If your here just for the music, best take a look around …. It’s about the experience, being apart of something bigger than a song or chord or note …. If you just want the music, go to mom and pops for the standard version. Leave those with more appreciation, to appreciate

This is a cool set, it’s a fun set. Aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, apparently to the touch and will for sure be to the ears.

Thank you Third Man

one time…..in bandcamp….I mean, one time in chat, you repeated yourself from a previous chat. and I said, RERUNS! you already said that. and your response was something like, “sorry, next time i’ll try to tell the truth in a different way….”. elephant is sooooo like last year, baby. tell me another old truth in a new and different way. a old/new truth we haven’t heard in awhile. tell me a NEW/old bedtime story, daddy. let’s hear about, oh, I don’t know…….SATAN!?!?!?!
