Vault Package #19

Vault Package #19

Do you like the White Stripes? Do you like experiments? Do you like the Vault? Do you like combining all three? We do. For our 19th installment of the Vault, we're doing something we've never done before. Something that Vault members have been clamoring for…the exclusive, limited, colored vinyl edition of a record. As you probably know, TMR tries to release a limited version of every record we do. That limited edition is usually available only at certain locations or stores, while the black vinyl version is kept in print forever.

This package will consist of limited colored vinyl pressings of all of the White Stripes singles from their album Elephant. These include…

"Seven Nation Army"

"I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself"

"The Hardest Button to Button"

"There's No Home For You Here"

The b-sides consist of covers of some of Detroit's most pre-eminent artists in 2003…

"Good to Me" written by Brendan Benson and Jason Falkner and originally released on Benson's 2002 album Lapalco.

"Who's to Say…" written by Dan Miller and released by his outfit Blanche in 2003 on their album If We Can't Trust the Doctors…

"St. Ides of March" written by the Soledad Brothers and released on their self-titled album of 2000.

As well as a White Stripes live medley of "I Fought Piranhas / Let's Build a Home" recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York.

Each of these tracks has been remastered from the original analog sources, and in the case of "…March" and "Piranhas" where there were no analog masters, we used only the finest digital files that could withstand sitting unused on a hard drive for over ten years.

The artwork on all the singles has been tidied up, spell-checked and given that special Third Man "je ne sais quoi"

"There's No Home For You Here", which was originally coupled with a generic company sleeve, now has stunning new artwork. It looks electrifying!

And these sleeves FEEL amazing. Employing a process called (we're not making this up) "soft touch aqueous coating" each of these glue-pocket sleeves feels like a hybrid between rubber and lambskin. It's difficult to describe, but immediately noticeable and amazing in person. Each record will be pressed on clear vinyl with with an added vinyl highlight color insertion of either red, black or white. For "There's No Home…" all three of those colors will be added to clear vinyl, to make something truly exciting. All of this will be housed in a custom-made telescoping box, so that these singles can forever live together with distinction in your record collection. Later in 2014 each of the singles will be available individually, on black vinyl, with no box, to the general public.

SIGN UP HERE. Deadline to sign-up for this package is January 31st at 7pm CST.

Too much whining

Four 7" for $60-$80 does seem a bit steep. Wish they had done the singles from GBMS or De Stijl.

Elephant was a great record, but by no means is it the one album by the stripes that is way above the others. Just feels like Elephant is getting all the love lately.

While I hope you never press GBMS, the singles would be a great product for both music collectors and listeners alike.

That or the Vault should do another live at Third Man and get Daniel Johnson or Ariel Pink…hah imo

Love this set, love the vault, love Third Man and I love vinyl.

I love 7" vinyls and also the Box for the vinyls is great, but i think a little extra would be fair. But you have to realize that the postage from US to Europe is at least 30 Dollars or more so i think its ok for 4 seven inches. I am happy as i collect everything from the White Stripes, its much better than some Vinyls from Bands i dont know. I love THE VAULT, i am having it since Number One and i will continue to have it till the very end. Keep it up, i love it.

I’m glad we won’t have to hunt down the ltd ed versions of these re-releases! All in one tidy and awesome looking box too!

i like the idea and it looks great but this costs $80 for us in the UK so feel its lacking somewhat and a tad expensive for 4 singles and a cardboard box.

Count me in among the disappointed. In these continuing bad economic times to drop $60 on 8 songs I already own just so I can have them in a colored vinyl format and a cool box is outrageously excessive. The packaging is all well and good, but at the end of the day it’s the music that matters. I get the feeling that this package is designed to baffle us with bullshit, rather than dazzle us with brilliance. It seems to me that the Vault is running low on ideas when they say: “We’ll give them what they’ve already got but make it colored vinyl.” To me this is like saying, “Here’s a book you’ve read a hundred times, but look! New font!” This set is tailor-made for the Ebay crowd, but that’s not me. I got into this for new, unheard music, not to turn a quick profit.

I read a quote from Jack White a long time ago. I can’t remember it exactly, but here’s the gist: “It doesn’t matter how many thousands of records you own…if you don’t like Dylan and the Beatles you’re not a fan, you’re a collector.”

This package is for collectors.

I’m afraid I’m putting the Vault on notice.

Hey TMR, could you give us a little more information about the custom-made box? What’s it made of? Does “telescoping” mean that it folds flat for shipping/moving/toting around to show off to our friends? How deep is it? Will it hold only these singles, or will there be room to put more stuff in it?

Tomyyy

Hey, I’m glad with this one as I do not have those singles on vinyl. A little expensive for four 7", but… wathever I’ll get those anyway!

bluerowan

I’m a sucker for coloured vinyl so am looking forward to these.
