RECORD STORE DAY AT THIRD MAN RECORDS: JACK WHITE & THIRD MAN RECORDS PRESENT…
T H E W O R L D ’ S F A S T E S T R E L E A S E D R E C O R D
LIMITED EDITION “LAZARETTO” SINGLE TO BE RECORDED LIVE, PRESSED & RELEASED APRIL 19 FOR RECORD STORE DAY
On April 19th, Record Store Day, Third Man Records will present Jack White recording the World’s Fastest Released Record, studio-to-store, in the history of mankind.
You heard correctly. First thing in the morning, Jack White will take the stage in Third Man's blue room and record direct-to-acetate what will serve as the limited edition version of his next single, a live rendition of the title track from his upcoming LP Lazaretto. The masters will be rushed over to United Record Pressing who will immediately begin pressing 45s. The sleeves will be printed from pictures taken at the show. The finished records will be whisked back to Third Man to sell to awaiting fans. All in the same day. All in a matter of mere hours. As long as there are fans in line waiting to buy the single, United will continue to press and deliver them to Third Man to sell. Even if it takes all day.
In addition, Whirlwind Heat will appear at Third Man to play their first live show since 2006 (and likely their last ever), as their TMR classic Do Rabbits Wonder? LP is reissued on a variety of colored vinyl for Record Store Day.
Plus a great selection of local vendors will be on hand to keep everyone well-fed and refreshed… and there will, as always, be some surprises.
Tickets for this whole day —“Ultra Tickets” — are extremely limited and will be available exclusively through The Third Man Records Vault to Platinum Members. Ultra Ticket holders will get to watch Jack White live recording his World’s Fastest Record, Whirlwind Heat’s afternoon performance, and will receive copies of both The World’s Fastest Record 7” and the Whirlwind Heat Record Store Day LP release — all without having to wait in line! Vault Platinum members who are ticket holders need only show up, see Jack White play, hang out for a bit and eat, watch Whirlwind Heat (last show EVER??) and then, as they leave, pick up their bag with both RSD releases. No lines. No stress.
For those who can’t score tickets, The World’s Fastest Record will be made available for sale from the front of Third Man Records as soon as copies are pressed. Anybody who shows up that day during business hours wanting to purchase a copy will get one. Third Man promises to deliver until all customers are satisfied (one per customer, obviously!). The World’s Fastest Record will only be available at Third Man Records on Record Store Day. One time only!
Ultra Tickets for Record Store Day will be available via The Vault Pre-Sale ticket store at 3pm CT today, Thursday, April 3rd. JUST A GOLD SUBSCRIBER? SIGN UP FOR A PLATINUM MEMBERSHIP HERE.

I did not manage to score a ticket. If I had I would have spent many more hundreds on airfare and accommodations to see the live performances and experience the Blue Room and Live Jack and Nashville all for the very first time. It would be so excellent if TMR would make the 7" available for sale online to vault members. I wish I could rationalize spending the hundreds now to wait in line to buy the record without the opportunity to behold the full bouquet, but I just can’t. Please, please give us the opportunity to increase our gratitude by offering the 7" online. Thank you!
@STL-Ben please keep in mind that IF we WERE lucky enough to have a chance to see the RSD show livestream’d… that does NOT mean we wouldn’t run out afterwards to our local record store for the remainder of RSD… we would still get out to our local stores but also would get a nice little bonus for being Vault members & TMR fans. (said as nicely as possible) :)
You can’t please everybody that is for sure. Fact is the Blue Room is small and only holds so many people – so even with out the flipping and the scalping there were going to be a lot of disappointed people. I don’t know how much Third Man can control the scalping because the fact is scalping is done at almost every show. I think the most they can do is warn or caution Vault Members and fans that this has gone way behind scalping. There are now scalpers that are now counterfeiting tickets and selling them to unsuspecting fans and making even more money that way than just flipping real tickets. This has all become a big business. After it came out about the scalpers who are counterfeiting tickets there are venues and music artists who now only allow the tickets to the show to be picked up at will call on the day of the show and the tickets can only be picked up by the person who’s credit card it was to purchase the tickets. And that goes for all tickets sold for the concert. This is one method that venues and certain artists are using to cut down on the scalping and the counterfeiting of tickets. Maybe this is something Jack and Third Man want to consider for the future. As the the World’s Fastest Record – of coarse there will be people sending friends to get them extra copies and paying homeless people to stand on line for them and of coarse it will be on ebay the next day selling for hundreds of dollars. It would be foolish to think that it wouldn’t when this seems to happen every time. But maybe Third Man would consider pressing this recording on a different color vinyl or releasing it in some other way – perhaps in a future vault package to the other platinum members. This way loyal fans don’t have to shell out hundreds to the flippers in order to have this. And yes, it would be absolutely AWESOME if Third Man live video streamed this for the platinum members. When people asked if they could live stream the Paramount talk Third Man came through for it’s members and made it happen – so how knows – maybe they will make it happen this time too. I have faith in Jack and Swanky. I do believe they think of all fans and vault members.
@J264514 I actually sent an email to the Vault address last night about the issue. There’s a section in the FAQ that mentions reports for flippers so I thought hey what the hell, I’ll give it a shot. I don’t even care if they reply, just wanted to send a shout-out.
HEY JACK! IF YOU’RE STILL ABLE TO CONTROL THE RAIN, COULD’YA MAKE SURE THERE ISN’T ANY IN NASHVILLE ON RSD?? Many, many thanks in advance :)
I’m still driving up from Atlanta even though I was unable to purchase tickets. Will be my first RSD there and the bonus of getting this amazing pressing is enough for me. Although being on at 3pm central and still no tickets available stings.
I wish I lived closer. I’ll see Jack at Gov’s Ball NYC but this would’ve been a sweet bonus and fun roadtrip. The ticket flipping just irks me but that’s the breaks.
The idea behind RSD is to get people out to stores, not to sit at home on computers….is that so confusing to folks?
Oh, I agree with @Scott Thompson.
Like, everybody will be able to visit Third Man and get the 7". EVERYBODY. One record per customer, come on, what does it change? Is that a problem to go there with your friend (or a few, why not) who isnt’t interested in Jack’s music/Third Man in general and ask them to buy this 7", so you can sell it on eBay for $200 and keep one for yourself?
I think it’d be fair if you allowed international Vault members to order The World’s Fastest Record, so we can enjoy it as well.
“Third Man promises to deliver until all customers are satisfied” – just note, that we’re your customers too, and not being able to attend Jack White’s live show hurts enough.
Also, that’d be just great if you made live stream of this event. Haven’t seen any yet.
Indeed! A live stream of TMR RSD would be greatly appreciated!
