So, we anticipated that you would be wondering with the rollout of TIDAL (the new high-quality, artist-owned audio streaming service that we are very stoked to support) -- "What does this mean for my Vault subscription? Don't get me wrong, I love it, but sometimes I just need a reminder, ya know?" Well ladies and gentlemen, here it is, in one succinct post.
Vault subscriptions include everything you've come to love: exclusive access to pre-sale tickets and early entry for Third Man-supported events and concerts, first access to Third Man news, audio, photo and video, contests, photo sharing, merchandise through the Vault member-only store (for Platinum members only) and a quarterly vinyl Vault packages (for Platinum members only).
Also, we are pleased to offer Gold and Platinum Vault members a new site-wide discount - something we've been planning for a long time. Now, when you're logged into your account, you can use the code VAULT10 at checkout for 10% off your purchase. Everyday. Certain exclusions do apply for specialty items, but for the most part, records and merchandise are now available to you for LESS without having to wait for a special sale to come around. And, of course, don't forget that you always have the opportunity to buy exclusive items in the Vault Novelties Store (cough, cough, Jay Z, cough, cough).
We are beyond excited to be founding members of TIDAL for our high-quality audio output, and to further support the artistic development of Jack, Jay Z, Daft Punk and the myriad other artists who are teaming up to realize this project. Hope that you guys are as eager as we are! Enjoy!
Thanks much for the explanation, Cam. Sigh of relief here.
For way too long the record companies and distributors have been giving artists the shaft. Most people don’t realize when you sign with a record company, unless you are one of the “super Biggies”, they own your songs that you work so hard to write, they only “push” very few artists and so many artists starting out don’ have a chance. Its about time artists band together to stream loss-less, HIFI, music where THEY own their music as it should be. I’m sure setting up this service took some hard work and many late night meetings with the dreaded lawyers.
That said, I will have to do a lot of checking out what is needed to take full advantage of the service. I have IOS8 and OS X Yosemite 10-10-2 with Safari, and as you well know, Apple is known for"does not play well with others". But I loathe Windows. So.
And, by the way, $20 is a bargain, and just because I belong to Vault Platinum, why should I expect a freebie for Tidal? Does subscribing to Netflix give you access to Hulu Plus? I don’t think so.
And just to be a bit curious, how does one get a voucher? (Shame on me!)
Do you hear that collective sigh of relief, Cam? We appreciate your TONE and REASSURING words to us in the Vault family. ;) I realize it was not appropriate for Jack to address our issues or how TIDAL might affect our Vault status at last night’s Publicity Show! We do know Jack’s heart and soul is with what he has created at TMR but what we heard and saw last night was a lot of artistic hyperbole and no real info on how it will work. Hopefully, It’s a “game changer” for the betterment of all but AS always the devil or God ;) is in the details… We are HERE because we think our hard-earned money is well spent on tangible, collectible, digital treasures, priceless experiences, etc. We will see how many want to pay for streaming-it’s a marketplace, afterall.
Jack White is probably the most consistent artist in terms of his intent and integrity. I can’t for the life of me think why anyone would believe he would just go off the rails in a day.
I hate to say I told you so but I actually really enjoy saying I told you so.
Thank you, Cam. I think you’re right, last night’s hullabaloo had a lot to do with mis-communication. Much more could have been said during the livestream portion of the Tidal press event to explain the product in-depth. To educate people, as Jack mentioned in chat this morning. People are in many cases reacting out of ignorance— Not stupidity, but lack of information. An opportunity was lost last night to more completely inform the public about how artists will be compensated, what sort of music will be included via the expert curation, how much better Tidal’s high fidelity will sound, etc. Couple that with some possibly mis-timed announcements that, again, left out information important to many of us, and voila! Recipe for a shit-storm. Mystery can be a great tool to build excitement, but in this case perhaps the mystery should have been explained. It’s a relief to know that those of us who had concerns about the Vault were wrong.
Thanks for the clarification, @BATMACAMBA! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the clarification Cam. :-)
Beautifully put @BATMACAMBA thank you for your clarification. Have a beautiful day all of you! Thanks for all your hard work it really does not go unnoticed. Love my latest vault ok. I have been playing around with Tidal. I think it’s a great service to fans and musicians all around. I have never been subscribed to any streaming companies but since this actually goes to the artists…. This might be one for me. Great way to hear the unheard! Music makes my world better!
