Exclusive Paramount Holiday Bundle

Exclusive Paramount Holiday Bundle

The Holiday spirit has us feeling like spreading the love here at Third Man Records… Spreading the love in the form of extra Paramount goodies! We are offering an Exclusive Holiday Paramount Bundle, which includes a few coveted extras for those whose wonder extends even beyond the Cabinet-of-Wonder!

Beyond The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records, Volume 1, the first bundle extra comes in the form of Third Man's first 78 RPM record, TMR237 "Battle Royale," a duel of sermons between Sister Ernia Mae Cunningham and Reverend H. C. Gatewood, D.D.I.M.R.A. Packaged in vintage, of-the-era card stock sleeves and achieving that proper dull luster that a record in the 1920's would have had, this 78 leaves us unable to decide which fiery "sermon with singing" tips the scale to win the battle, but we look forward to hearing your opinion.

We are also pleased to include Swan Keepsakes from the New York Public Library Paramount Records event held in November, hand-letterpressed by Bryce McCloud at Isle of Printing in Nashville (also responsible for the gorgeous white birch LP folio within the Cabinet-of-Wonder), and a Paramount T-Shirt of your choice (out of the 4 available options).

The first 20 bundles ordered will arrive with a very special extra addition: a Paramount Records Shadowbox. This laser cut standing card is a non-distributed promotional item for the Paramount stem, and will look fantastic in anyone's parlor or record room.

This bundle is available now only while supplies last…

For those of you who haven't yet tumbled into the Paramount rabbit hole, there's some great information coming from Time Magazine and from David Fricke's 5 star review in Mojo Magazine, both available in print now. You can read them here.

I ended up putting mine, just wondered why they shipped in paper. Now I got paper sleeves laying around haha. LP1 is my favorite of the bunch so far.

I put mine into the sleeves of the birch folio. Didn’t feel right not to, that’s what it was made for so they belong there. And having the records inserted brings out the graphics on the sleeves. But I don’t tend to think from a typical collector’s perspective, so I probably do a lot of things like this the “wrong” way.

I wish they would just do a box set like the Beatles did. I love that one. I could see a box set going for $200, I think that would be a fair price for a Beatles like box. Basically the albums and a nice book. On another note, for your Paramount Box Set do you put your vinyl’s back in the paper sleeve they came in or did you transfer them to the plastic ones in the book? I am not sure what the built in ones are for. It seems like they are a little too tight of a fit. Is it just for looks?

Ah, Mr. O’Bryant’s clarinet… so nasty and wonderful. Make sure you listen to Trixie Smith’s version, too. I love it when the ladies back then got risque. Somehow they were able to maintain an elegance alongside the bawdiness that’s missing these days. As for GBMS, my guess (and this is only a guess) is that it’s going to be reissued chronologically like the rest of the Stripes albums have been so far. But considering that Jack wasn’t able to do the vinyl version the way he wanted to originally, this album’s a little more complicated than the rest of them. I have faith that he’s well aware of how desperately people want it and that he and TMR have plans to surprise us with it some day. Why pester them with a petition?

Jimmy O’Bryant’s is the one I am talking about. Are you a Vault subscriber? I say we get a petition going for the next or future release. All I really want is Get Behind Me Satan on vinyl. I know there are like 600 copies out there but I have heard the pressing and the artwork was not that great. I heard the artwork was just the CD picture blown up. I want it to listen to first and foremost. I think a 200 gram peppermint swirl would be enough for me. Way off topic but I had to get it on these boards somehow!!

If anyone’s got a spare $35k lying around they could have Jack Penewell’s original 1932 Twin-Six guitar— http://www.frettedamericana.com/product/1932-gibson-double-neck Think twice before watching the video demonstration of it, it could make Mr. Penewell spin in his grave.

Raw: Ah, you definitely found some I hadn’t got to yet. Just pulled up a playlist of your favorites, thanks very much. Which version of My Man Rocks Me are you referring to? The two are very different, but both excellent— One for Jimmy O’Bryant’s filthy clarinet and the other for Trixie’s delivery of those fun lyrics. Re: Volume 2— Apparently it’s going to include more of the solo male blues artists such as Charley Patton and Son House, but I haven’t seen any articles mentioning much in the way of specifics. Too soon.

Does anyone have any idea what Volume 2 will contain? I don’t really care about the number too much but the first or last would be cool. What would be even better though and I hope happens is to get the same number for set #2!!!

My favorite songs are; Bye and Bye, Here Comes Melinda, Hey Hey Daddy Blues,It’s a Good Thing, My Man Rocks Me (I think the “main” song used to promote this whole set), Run Nigger Run, Swing Low Chariot, and my favorite song…Wait Till I Put On My Robe. I have finals so I have been listening to the digital more. Not sure if any of these songs are on the vinyl. Will spend all next week playing and reading everything!

Hey TMR people, sorry I mentioned it in the comments section. Next time I have a simple yes or no question I will just send an email.
