BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Raconteurs

“(embargoed from sharing the title)” one-sided single

scums stats: WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?

Hard to believe I’m even doing one this week, but the collectibility has me all keyed up. Multiple covers? Multiple paper colors? Only given out to Ultra Ticket purchasers? SIGN ME UP.

Everybody is gonna want one, so let me just pre-emptively tell you…I don’t have any to spare!

You wanna place bets on the high price these reach on Discogs? Will anyone be able to collect ALL four?

Good luck to those trying, as you will need it.

You know, this song originally wasn’t going to be on the album. But Swank and I had to explain to the band how DAMN GOOD it was. It makes multiple statements that need to be made. The performance is tight…who even knew Brendan could DO that?

People who won't play the game the hard way, let’s do easy. Let’s give away a test pressing for commenters. You’ve got a week to get it in there. Tell me your favorite Third Man moment of the past ten years. I may use discretion or I may just pick a comment at random, so everyone has a chance.

October 10 2012. Carl Perkins Civic center. Best show I’ve ever seen. Cheers!

March, 2010. Growing up in the 80’s in the Cass Corridor & going to Burton Elementary, the announcement & screening of ‘Under Great White Northern Lights’ at my former school turned theater was a very special one. Roaming the halls twenty-something years later with my sister & getting to sit in our old auditorium to watch such a powerful White Stripes film was perfect in every way. The popcorn was even better than usual. Thank you TMR, I appreciate you!

Rich Kid Blues at The Pageant (St. Louis) in 2012. In all my years of seeing live shows, I had never had an experience such as that before, nor have I since…that being said, Tuesday night in The Blue Room and Jack at TMR CC last year (the night before he played the pizza place) were both very close seconds…

@Dontazemebro was that before or after the phone call?

Goddammit. Jack was practically giddy at the notion of these wacky new records. Way cool.

A friend thought I was going to be lured & abducted when I told her about the Third Man 333 Ft. Underground concert in 2017. Something about being bused through the Tennessee night to a distant cave sounded suspect. The night of the show, my sister & I arrived in McMinnville on the last bus. We followed a dark path in the woods lit by guides holding flashlights. Once I saw Ben Swank taking a drag from his cigarette by the cave entrance, I knew all was legit. I glimpsed you, Ben, enjoying the show & other familiar Third Man faces. Jack was perched on a bleacher, absorbed in the music. The cave resonated with the sound of pedal steel guitar, Lillie’s restless fiddle, & every song from Margo’s yet-to-be-released album. The chandelier above our heads glowed softly, Joshua’s Nudie suit sparkled, & the stage lights flashed orange, purple, & blue. It was one of the most surreal & incredible nights. Thank you, Third Man. Here’s to the next 10 years.
