This month's planned Pride dance night party in our Blue Room took on an extra prescience this weekend when we were all shocked, angered and deeply saddened for the fabric of the LGBT community with the horrible action in Orlando. Discrimination, intimidation, and abuse are a terrible everyday reality for most in the LGBT community worldwide, and safe spaces to congregate, celebrate and just BE are such a vital and important part of that community that we can't allow any heinous act to take that away. Nowhere. And though we all are feeling shaken and disturbed by what occurred in Orlando, we strongly feel that LOVE and COMMUNITY are always the way forward and we invite everyone to join us on Friday, June 17th to INVITE THE LIGHT for an all night Pride dance here in our Nashville Blue Room with DJ Nomi, Tan, and Grey People (astute dancers may remember TAN and Grey People from Portal night here back in March). A percentage of proceeds will be donated to the official Pulse Victims Fund: https://www.gofundme.com/PulseVictimsFund
Given the proliferating subgenres of dance music that represent so many scenes and ideologies throughout the world, Grey People’s Alex Michalski is the linguistic polymath who translates from acid noises to trap stabs, Italo oscillations to 4/4 house foundations. Fluent in thee infinite beat and ready to rattle the spaces inside your spine; Grey People is the future, pulsing and compressing through you.
When machines feel, their only means of expression is the flutter / A variance in data / A shift between 0s and 1s / Arpeggiations / Syndrum rolls / As we hear them. Neon light / Fog and fire / Poppers o’clock. TAN is the sound of the machines feeling love / And euphoria / And prickly melancholy. The TAN album <<MUSIK CITY>> is available now / On Stochastic.
DJ Nomi has remixed tracks for Paris Street and Big Nurse, unleashed 2004’s The Laptent EP on a confused public, and has been Crispin Glover’s photo elf on several occasions. His radio mixshow Erase; Rewind airs weekly on dancemixusa.com.
