I forgot to mention our leader was some brit named dmdv1. a chimney sweep I think. ;-)
Let me tell ya a little story ‘bout a man named Jed…actually it’s the beginning of the vault. In the beginning…there was a nice little chatroom. It was new and exciting and we were all strangers, every one of us. We all had a love for the same thing and we came there everyday, because it was some sort of crazy addicting meeting, but our addiction was Jack and each other. We were from all over the country and world. There was elduderino, BluefordT, magicskipper, kaputnik, happydad, 80sskatebetty, dasmeems, drdano, Thallirn, three and several others. We became a small community because we put in our time there, talking to eachother almost everyday. We had what we affectionately called, “shifts”. Whenever the time was convenient for each person, we new that’s when they’d be there to chat, morning, afternoon or evening. We really got to know each other, we even started exchanging phone numbers and talking on the phone! 80sskatebetty decided to have a party, so we could all get together and meet up, in Nashville! It became the Vault Party, in which most of us attended, it was a wonderful weekend of music, camaraderie and mutual understanding. Most of us have remained friends and in touch, while others have fallen to the wayside, involved with life’s complications, but still in our hearts and minds. THIS is what makes a community. Not a Twitter notification. Not only coming into see the famous people, the Third Man employees. Back then, there were no Twitter notifications. When someone came in, it was whoever was on that “shift” that got to talk to them, and that was romantic. It was a beautiful thing. A small group of dedicated fans and friends, sitting around the campfire, shooting the shit. There was very little shouting and begging for this and that. It was restrained and not an out of control mob scene. THIS is what makes a community. So y’all can do whatever you want of course, you’re in charge, this is your thing. But please don’t call involving Twitter expanding the chat room community. Those people who only come in here with a Twitter announcement have not put in the time to become part of a community. I’m sorry if this makes me sound like an “Elitist”, I don’t mean it to. I’m part of a core group that was here from the very beginning, and I’ve made some lifelong friends here, because I have put in the time. three and Thallirn and magicskipper, are 3 of my best friends, you know why? The Vault chat room. Not Twitter. I love this house that Jack has built, it has become part of who I am and has changed me in ways I can’t even begin to explain. No, I’m not drunk. Sincerely, Tisha/TCD/21×3
There you go, best of both worlds.
Hi all, we’ve debated over and over and there are so many different opinions about if folks want to be notified or not when Jack or someone else is in the chat room. It seems to us the majority of Vaulters DO want notification so we’ve set up this twitter and people can choose for themselves wether they want to follow, be notified, or not… Hopefully this will only help to expand the chat room community.
Hmm. I don’t participate in chat, for very good reasons of my own, but I’ve paid my Vault dues from the start, and in the highly unlikely event I’m able to log on when Jack, Ben or Ben is on, then I think I’ve paid for the right to see what they’ve got to say. If I promise not to pester Jack with "Come to Cleveland!, “Come to Dallas!,” “Are you getting back together with Meg?”
What 21×3 said. Not long ago an unknown-to-chat vaulter got a tweet and popped in to opine that they liked getting tweets because it lets them know “when someone of importance is on.” Nice community vibe, that. And their loss.
so, going back on what you said before? the vault giveth, the vault taketh away…eth. wouldn’t it be more fun to talk to a small group than have it flooded with fair-weather friends? have fun with that.
as you can imagine, i’m very happy about this! and that you listened to my whini—pleas!
thanks… this is a great idea
