Do you like the White Stripes? Do you like experiments? Do you like the Vault? Do you like combining all three? We do. For our 19th installment of the Vault, we're doing something we've never done before. Something that Vault members have been clamoring for…the exclusive, limited, colored vinyl edition of a record. As you probably know, TMR tries to release a limited version of every record we do. That limited edition is usually available only at certain locations or stores, while the black vinyl version is kept in print forever.
This package will consist of limited colored vinyl pressings of all of the White Stripes singles from their album Elephant. These include…
"Seven Nation Army"
"I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself"
"The Hardest Button to Button"
"There's No Home For You Here"
The b-sides consist of covers of some of Detroit's most pre-eminent artists in 2003…
"Good to Me" written by Brendan Benson and Jason Falkner and originally released on Benson's 2002 album Lapalco.
"Who's to Say…" written by Dan Miller and released by his outfit Blanche in 2003 on their album If We Can't Trust the Doctors…
"St. Ides of March" written by the Soledad Brothers and released on their self-titled album of 2000.
As well as a White Stripes live medley of "I Fought Piranhas / Let's Build a Home" recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York.
Each of these tracks has been remastered from the original analog sources, and in the case of "…March" and "Piranhas" where there were no analog masters, we used only the finest digital files that could withstand sitting unused on a hard drive for over ten years.
The artwork on all the singles has been tidied up, spell-checked and given that special Third Man "je ne sais quoi"
"There's No Home For You Here", which was originally coupled with a generic company sleeve, now has stunning new artwork. It looks electrifying!
And these sleeves FEEL amazing. Employing a process called (we're not making this up) "soft touch aqueous coating" each of these glue-pocket sleeves feels like a hybrid between rubber and lambskin. It's difficult to describe, but immediately noticeable and amazing in person. Each record will be pressed on clear vinyl with with an added vinyl highlight color insertion of either red, black or white. For "There's No Home…" all three of those colors will be added to clear vinyl, to make something truly exciting. All of this will be housed in a custom-made telescoping box, so that these singles can forever live together with distinction in your record collection. Later in 2014 each of the singles will be available individually, on black vinyl, with no box, to the general public.
SIGN UP HERE. Deadline to sign-up for this package is January 31st at 7pm CST.
MOON 72, i live in France too, but seriously 80$ for 8 songs. 4 we all have it on the Elephant LP and 4 others we all heard, have on mp3 or 7". When I look VP 18, there is a double 12", a 7" and a dvd. There is a big difference.
Also, if I am a memeber(got my first vault release last month) do I need to sign up again or does it automatically bill me? Thanks
Yeah, not sure how I feel about this. I think with all these singles they should include the TMR 45 box that holds singles. I was thinking about buying one, now I might have too. I still want GBMS released. Oh well, maybe #20
Have to agree with the naysayers I’m afraid. I love the fancy vinyl and all- we all like a novelty, but I joined the Vault because I like music, not packaging. I’ve already got the music here, so…
spelling correction; “Lightning Bolt”
Some people seem to be disappointed about this Vault Package that I find great. Each people are different and don’t expect same things….For me who live in a small village lost in France where I have to drive about 30 minutes to the first record store with NO choice of vinyls (about 5 or 10 artists, that’s all…and I don’t like them!). It is just wonderful to wait for this package for months….coming very far, from Nashville to my village…and to hear my postman ringing at my bell saying “Hello here is your package from The States”….Yes once again I will appreciate each moment of that wonderful “trip” from the Vault Package announcement to my turntable. I’m a romantic girl!
One of the things my daughter gave to me for Christmas was Pearl Jam’s new music “Lightening Bolt” (on cd). Has anyone noticed these similarities (1) Title of new album = “Lightening Bolt”…reminds me of lightening bolt colored records put out by TMR (2) colors used = red, white, black and a little bit of yellow (3) saw PJ article with reference to fellow Seattle band, Mudhoney = played in Blue Room at TMR and made “live” album being sold at TMR (4) PJ has been friends with Neil Young for decades and now TMR is friends with Neil Young. PJ dedicated their new album to Uncle Neil…pretty sure that means Neil Young. / Anyway, just want to mention that I have been following PJ for over 2 decades, since I first learned about them when they played with Neil Young back in 1992. I have always liked the packaging PJ uses. I remember reading information about how they try to keep their packaging environmentally friendly and cost effective. I would like TMR to do that with the complete White Stripes’ music collection. I know, I am sounding like a broken record here but I am waiting for all of the White Stripes’ music to be sold in a simple package deal (black vinyl records and packaging like Pearl Jam has used for their releases for decades = simple, simple, simple yet still interesting and fun to own: love the little booklets) and hope TMR can copy some of PJ’s practices one day/year. / The older I get the more I am feeling like B.B. King’s song “The Thrill Is Gone” with all the over done things in this world. Yes it is nice when you are young but as you get older (at least for me) I appreciate the simpler things in life. / Now I think I want to disappear…at least until I add on another year = keeping a low profile until spring. Good luck to everyone surviving this winter, wherever you are.
Very very cool. Thanks Third Man! I can’t wait for this to ship!
Personally I dig this, since I’m a real 7" “nerd” :-) But also understand the Vault members that are a little bit dissapointed about this package, since there is no 12" and no exclusive music. But atfterall we get an exlusive box and colored vinyls, so its really something exclusive for us Vault members. I live in Norway and has never had a chance to get LTD RSD releases in store, always had to buy them on Ebay way overpriced, so for me this is gold.
