Hey all,
We have updated the Vault's Policy and FAQ and wanted to make you all aware (if you haven't noticed already). The revisions include a different approach to addressing "flipping" merchandise on eBay and other online sales sites, a 14 day period to return/exchange damaged merchandise after receiving as well as an allotment of 3 business days to rectify a suspended Vault subscription before it is marked as cancelled. Also, please note that the time for each Vault deadline has now moved from 12am CST to 12am GMT on the deadline day.
It is our hope that with more specific guidelines, we will be better able to streamline your experience with the Vault and, thus, have more time and energy to devote to putting out cool vinyl, odditties, novelties, trinkets and objets d'art.
Please familiarize yourselves with these guidelines, so that we are all on the same page. These policy changes are effective immediately!
In my oplnion some of us need flippers so we can replace items that either dont turn up or turn up damaged, I would prefer third man had the money but so be it
The only way I would consider someone a “flipper” is if they exploit the item with an outrageous “buy now” price. To simply put it up for auction starting at even face value and letting others, (that didn’t have a chance to purchase it) decide what they are willing to pay should not be frowned upon. Like Keef94 said " I do like knowing that many records I have are worth more than what I paid for them. That doesn’t mean much without a buyer though".
Keef94. Just plan on hanging on to your TMR stuff. When I went into the army in 1982 I left a box of vinyl records with the other small stash of stuff I wanted to keep…got down to two office type lockable storage cabinets in my parents basement and gave all other possessions from my apartment away. I left my home town with only a duffel bag. Once I got out of the army and I was following the active duty army husband around I went home and got my box of vinyl records and they have been shipped all over the country with our household goods. While thinning stuff out this week I got to the bottom of some boxes and for the first time in decades I unsealed that box of vinyl records. I have some that are autographed by Charlie Daniels, Arlo Guthrie, Scruggs family members and some others. It has been a long time since I have had a record player to play vinyl records on. Since I have been hanging out at Third Man Records I have gotten another record player to play vinyl records on. I have so much more respect for vinyl records than I do cd’s and now I am giving cd’s away. Hang onto your vinyl records and you can pass them on to special people in your life. Vinyl records make really special gifts.
I love Third Man, and I’m VERY happy with The Vault. However, I do take a little issue with the “flipper” policy. If I buy an album, or a car, or a painting, it is my property isn’t it? I feel that I have the right to resell it if I choose. I’ve never flipped or even resold a single Third Man item, but I do like knowing that many records I have are worth more than what I paid for them. That doesn’t mean much without a buyer though.
At some point I might decide that my kids need college more than I need my inverted lightning bolt Blunderbuss. If when that happens, I hope that the Third Man Flippers Court will consider my plea of mercy. Please don’t get me wrong, I do love the stuff, I love the service, and worship the creativity. But we can’t all be buried with this stuff, right? I don’t see hoarding as a lot more meritorious than occasionally putting a record in the hands of somebody who wants it more. All that to say, I hope an occasional reseller is not necessarily seen as a flipper.
Not taking sides with the ebayers but…I just recently joined The Vault and I’ve been able to round up a few previous vault packages that I’d missed. I certainly payed extra for them but I’m satisfied with my investment.
I am happy to see the policy on flippers- I have bought some items off eBay from before I was a member on here. I got wallet raped, but worth it considering the albums I ended up with…
Would it be possible to make it where we can tick a box & stay signed in to our Vault accounts? I understand not staying signed in on public/friend’s computers, but I typically log in on my laptop, and it is a slight annoyance (but not a big deal) to have to sign in every time; especially when it is more than once during the day.
It’s your house so it’s your rules. I play well with others.
I think that it is good that you monitor eBay for Vault members who are also flippers and then take action with those who are flippers. I agree with your statement…the Vault is for those who love and appreciate vinyl, movies, and art. Let’s keep it that way.
