LIMITED EDITION PHYSICAL RELEASE FEBRUARY 23
DEBUT ALBUM RELEASE BY 1st RAP ARTIST
SIGNED TO THIRD MAN RECORDS
“Firstly, he's a beast of rapper who defines bully bars.
If rap were truly a meritocracy,
SHIRT would be in the running for King of New York.” - PITCHFORK
“The mysterious spitter raps his ass off...
His Wordplay Is Insane.” – XXL
Directed by SHIRT and Dave Svedosh, "Flight Home" is immersed in all things classically New York. SHIRT brings you along for ride through Manhattan on top of a truck painted with Nike Adidas signage, something he has done quite a few times on his own prior to filming the music video. For 50 or so blocks from 23rd on Broadway through the Lower East Side, the crowds cheered, took photos and enjoyed the free performance and shirts. After savoring a typical decadent meal, SHIRT creeps down to the famed Freedom Tunnel, exposing its raw and extraordinary graffiti artwork honoring the displaced New Yorkers who sought liberty and refuge.
Inspired by the profound artwork of conceptual artist John Baldessari, PURE BEAUTY will be SHIRT’s first full length album to be released via Third Man Records. As the first rap artist signed to yours truly, SHIRT will make his debut album release digitally on February 9th while the LP with an alternative cover featuring Baldessari's artwork will available February 23rd with a companion limited edition containing bonus content and a Baldessari-inspired shirt. More details forthcoming.
ABOUT SHIRT:
New York rapper SHIRT is ready to raise the bar into a new age of hip-hop as the multi-talented artist embodies the roles of composer, painter, rap music sculptor and writer. While he began on the outskirts of rap using gimmicks to garner attention including a fake New York Times article and name dropping power players, it was his innovative street albums RAP MONEY, NIKE ADIDAS and MUSEUM that garnered him internet buzz.
Currently, SHIRT is living abroad in Europe where he is completing a Master’s in Fine Artsdegree. Although he is a high school dropout with only a GED and no undergraduate degree, SHIRT was accepted based on his impressive portfolio of music and multi-medium art. Stay close as SHIRT continues.
Shoulda been Black Milk.
Racial slurs, crude sexual remarks, supports greedy billion dollar corporations. (Their logos are all thruoght the video for Flight Home.) Calling it “Pure Beauty” doesn’t make it beautiful. Not falling for it TMR. Good try.
meh
folks…. i offer this olive branch of great value so that you might appreciate the real work being done to mend a disinfranchised sound … Take Me To The River https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RFmULZOFaIM …. no one is trying to be mad in that community… they are there to teach and progress the legacy of creative soul work
Meh. Compare this guy to Action Bronson and you’ll hear what he is lacking as a rapper from Queens. For those of you on here “struggling to get into hip hop” – give the Action Bronson album Well Done a listen. If i had to elect a rap mayor of Queens NY it would be him.
Love it. Strong New York Hip-Hop. I love the diversity in the sounds that TMR has on the label. Keep ’em coming guys!
got money get MFA….. up the republic i guess
Get behind me Jack: This! I dont have ANY interest in hearing the N-word and cant ‘rap’ my head around the objectification of women in so much hip hop… People are burning cars and rioting over racism and feminism and this moron is dropping Nbombs and talking about eating his girl? Please TMR, maybe focus on getting the new vault out and forget about this garbage?
I cant even believe how bad this is… coming from someone who will fight you if you dont like JW, this is a huge fail.
But he’s got a Gucci belt, says the n word, and bitches can suck his dick so he must be a good dude… JFC SMH!!!
in addition to the actual music and performance, he’s interested in art, design, control of every aspect of his career, and he emphasizes the primacy of love—seems like a perfect fit for TMR, even though I understand that some people just don’t like rap (or country, or whatever). I really like the video (especially the ironic use of product placement) and look forward to hearing more from him.
As a huge fan of hip-hop and TMR, can’t lie that I’m kinda disappointed in this guy.
And to fellow TMR fans here in the comment section who can’t get into hip-hop because it’s not musical enough, there’s a lot of great hip-hop out there that will suit your taste. Try out To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar. Many consider it to be the greatest rap album (or album in general) of this decade. It’s a concept album unlike anything I’ve ever heard and it is total genius.
