EPISODE 1:
"DRUMMING TECHNIQUE, DESIGN, AND DISCUSSION WITH DEAD WEATHER DRUMMER JACK WHITE"
DIRECTED BY JACK WHITE
LIVE NOW ON MODERN DRUMMER
The Dead Weather have released the first of four technique and instrument-based videos. This first episode features drummer Jack White demonstrating the details of his drum kit within the context of the band’s 2009 debut single, “Hang You From The Heavens.” Jack White designed the kit himself and the incredible team at Ludwig Drums attacked the build with vigor, creating a very unique trap kit. The White-directed video concludes with a live drumming performance of “Hang You From The Heavens," with an alternate drum beat to highlight the techniques discussed and showcase the band’s inner workings during live performances. The band and Third Man Records will release three more videos, each highlighting the member’s specific instruments and a different song from the band’s career, including tracks from their forthcoming album Dodge and Burn. Watch Jack’s video now on Modern Drummer.
Dodge and Burn - the band's third album and first full-length release in five years - is available for pre-order now, with all digital pre-orders receiving an instant grat download of "I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)." The track is also on sale now at digital retailers worldwide.
That kit looks painful to play.
Y’know, as cool as the variation on HYFTH sounds using the top of the gigantic cymbal, the one drawback is not being able to watch Jack twirl his sticks in between hits on the high-hat.
So cheeky & duplicitous… What’s not to love? Happy to see Jack back at the kit.

something seems to be wrong with the link…both via the vault and on the modern drummer website itself. very interested in this as a new drummer…will check back later.
This is highly entertaining, enlightening, and a feast for all our eyes and ears, hungry to see our “band of the hour” and especially, Chief Jack-of-all-trades. Such sly chicanery and spoofery, using The Monkee band drummer, Mickey D. Lolling…No American Epic til Jan. is disappointing but looking forward to three more DW “tutorial” videos!!!
Yes all the “tripping screaming girls” love those flat drums … Wow this was amazing, thanks.
Micky Dolenz standing in for Ringo! Hilarious. More, more, more! Loved Jack explaining his custom kit and drumming choices as if he’s talking to Scarlett. Or was that Starlett?.?
And I love that he’s still using a cymbal he’s had since he was a kid.
I think this may be my favorite video yet.
