EPISODE 1:
"DRUMMING TECHNIQUE, DESIGN, AND DISCUSSION WITH DEAD WEATHER DRUMMER JACK WHITE"
DIRECTED BY JACK WHITE
LIVE NOW ON MODERN DRUMMER
The Dead Weather have released the first of four technique and instrument-based videos. This first episode features drummer Jack White demonstrating the details of his drum kit within the context of the band’s 2009 debut single, “Hang You From The Heavens.” Jack White designed the kit himself and the incredible team at Ludwig Drums attacked the build with vigor, creating a very unique trap kit. The White-directed video concludes with a live drumming performance of “Hang You From The Heavens," with an alternate drum beat to highlight the techniques discussed and showcase the band’s inner workings during live performances. The band and Third Man Records will release three more videos, each highlighting the member’s specific instruments and a different song from the band’s career, including tracks from their forthcoming album Dodge and Burn. Watch Jack’s video now on Modern Drummer.
Dodge and Burn - the band's third album and first full-length release in five years - is available for pre-order now, with all digital pre-orders receiving an instant grat download of "I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)." The track is also on sale now at digital retailers worldwide.
Thats freekin awesome totesmagoatz.. Please tell gim Thank You for Sharin the Love!! As for me… I just wanted to add how truly satisfying it is to see and hear Jack back on the kit..mixin it up and carrying the pace with such natural and solid time keeping! LJ gets the respects too for all that laboring of love as well…but something about Jack on the drums soothes my soul… Ah!!!
My dad is a band instructor at Subiaco Academy in AR. He is showing all of these to his band students. Spreading the good vibes and tasty techniques! :)
Some of his students are actually Vault members! Whoot.
I asked Jack about Starlett Black in chat the other day …. He responded that she works at Third Man Records … Such a doll baby!!!
Nice Spinal Tap reference Jack!
thanks @bloomooks & @Aquamarine. a working link actually surfaced in my facebook feed via pitchfork later that day. loved the piece! think jack may have watched “whiplash”?
Koala… I think its smartly designed as kits go relative to the groupings of sound… Im thinking its setup makes it hard to overplay or ride on any single tonality for too long… Variety is the spice of drumming after all and feeling the pain will certainly keep one moving… In all seriousness Thank You for the humor and the lesson in specialized kit building… And yes it did seem like Meg in one scene ofthe scrilla dialogue to me as well… What hat will the Rabbit pull out of his sleeve of tricks next?? Who can say??? but I do think we will all love or at least those of us who are here to truly be fans that is… Onward Dæd Weather Freds!!! The media blitz awaits!
Thanks for posting those alternate links.. Im sure lots of folks ran into that roadblock… Cant wait to check out the next in the series… Im dropping this bit of archival bliss here just to share an interview that says a lot about technique surprisingly enough… Good old jools on the case solving mysteries and stirring u p new ones … The Dead Weather ‘Treat Me Like Your Mother’ On J…: http://youtu.be/T2Ky4v_FvFE
Seriously boss! And, Seriously, Boss— Dear Mr. White,
Please direct everything from TMR henceforth. And star in it. And say skrilla more. Just in life in general.
Thanks for this, I laughed and actually learned something! Can’t wait for more.
I don’t know Jack…about drumming. But, that was a really cool and informative demonstration. Loved the amazing performance from The Dead Weather, too! Already looking forward to the next installment…
Awesome. Love your technique. Great idea with these videos.
