Over the past 5 years, Third Man Records has brought to life many ideas that are new to the century-old vinyl format. So, when it came time for the creative hive to discuss the vision for the pressing of Jack White’s Lazaretto, we were keenly aware of what it would take to produce a piece of wax worthy of the music it would contain… No single innovation would suffice. We needed to go big. We needed to go bold. We needed to press an ULTRA LP.
- 180 gram vinyl
- 2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels
- 1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM, one plays at 45 RPM, making this a 3-speed record
- Side A plays from the inside out
- Dual-groove technology: plays an electric or acoustic intro for “Just One Drink” depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song.
- Matte finish on Side B, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record
- Both sides end with locked grooves
- Vinyl pressed in seldom-used flat-edged format
- Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record
- Zero compression used during mastering
- Different running order from the CD/digital version
- LP utilizes some mixes different from those used on CD and digital version
Vault members needn’t worry – the Vault version and the standard version of Lazaretto both contain all ULTRA LP features. The LP will come with an MP3 download card. Pre-order begins today. Lazaretto will be officially released June 10th.
Ah, thank you, what a nice breakfast surprise! Jack and the drummer (Carla? Daru?) are rockin’ the hell out of this song, everyone else seems a bit… sedate. Glad they woke up for the live performance on RSD! And I’ll say it again, this tune NEEDS to become a regular part of the set on the tour, Jack, it really comes to life in front of a crowd. I’ve seen it once, but once just wasn’t enough. Not to mention, everyone who wasn’t in the Blue Room on RSD should have the treat of experiencing it!
in case you haven’t noticed the download is up!

Gimmicks are great, but let the music do the talking. Can’t wait to hear it….I hope it’s good. Nothing is ever certain.
Yeah, the map in the background is of an actual lazaretto, it says “Women’s Ward” on the right side of the picture. So cool to include so much detail
@KristywithaK – excellent question… perfectly befitting of the wonderfully elaborate foreplay preceding the album releases
i’m in
like there was any doubt. the lure of matte vinyl
In addition to what CurseofHalos pointed out, there’s no guarantee that we’ll get ANY Vault package at a certain time. The FAQ states that packages ship 6-8 weeks after the quarterly payment deadline, but that’s really just an estimate. Some have been quicker, some have been slower. Depends on what sort of component production issues they run into (if any) and/or what else they’re dealing with (SxSW, RSD, Christmas, etc).
Colin, I suggest you go ahead and get a copy on June 10th, because Vault 20 will not be ready by then. No where in the announcement does it say that you will get the Vault package on the album release date. The album and the Vault release are two separate beasts.
New Vault member here. I see that Vault #19 is still shipping now. Because they’re quarterly packages, does this mean that we’ll get Lazaretto sometime in August? That’ll be tough when others get theirs on June 10th.
Cheers,
Colin
Thanks Quizze- that makes total sense! I can always count on TMR for a well rounded education!
