Over the past 5 years, Third Man Records has brought to life many ideas that are new to the century-old vinyl format. So, when it came time for the creative hive to discuss the vision for the pressing of Jack White’s Lazaretto, we were keenly aware of what it would take to produce a piece of wax worthy of the music it would contain… No single innovation would suffice. We needed to go big. We needed to go bold. We needed to press an ULTRA LP.
- 180 gram vinyl
- 2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels
- 1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM, one plays at 45 RPM, making this a 3-speed record
- Side A plays from the inside out
- Dual-groove technology: plays an electric or acoustic intro for “Just One Drink” depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song.
- Matte finish on Side B, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record
- Both sides end with locked grooves
- Vinyl pressed in seldom-used flat-edged format
- Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record
- Zero compression used during mastering
- Different running order from the CD/digital version
- LP utilizes some mixes different from those used on CD and digital version
Vault members needn’t worry – the Vault version and the standard version of Lazaretto both contain all ULTRA LP features. The LP will come with an MP3 download card. Pre-order begins today. Lazaretto will be officially released June 10th.
Wendy Tomlinson it’ “poppin the top on a Rock n Rye.” It is a soda or a s we here in Michigan call it pop by the Faygo company. mmmmmmmm and it is yummy, especially as float with vanilla ice cream.

So I figured out what ‘wine spodie odie’ is (I admit it- I had to look it up!!), anyone familiar with this party beverage made in a garbage can? And yes another garbage can reference- love it!
Haven’t figured out what ‘poppin’ the top on a Rockin’ Ryan’ is though. Any thoughts? Care to enlighten us Jack? Enquiring minds want to know!!
Why can’t I have fun like Jack White??
People say I’m the life of the party.
Hey Jack, I will patiently wait on your call.
See you in LA.
On the bat’s back I do fly, after summer merrily… Cannot wait for That Black Bat Licorice. I already think that might be my favorite song from the record, even though I’ve yet to hear more than the snippet on NPR. 18 days to go.
Just One Drink’s a bunch’a fun. Must’ve been for y’all recording it, too, considering the laughter at the end. That gave me a smile, which I sorely needed today, so thank you.
Just thinking, would it be possible to have two grooves on one side, one normal, the other one inverted, sharing a locked groove in the middle? Anyways, looking forward to Lazaretto.
Soooooooooooooooooo… When do we get Lazaretto and Power of My Love on 7" vinyl, hmmmm? Listening to the mp3 in my car is fine and dandy (dangerous, considering the effect of Power of My Love while I’m driving, but dandy nonetheless), but I’d like to be able to listen at home, too. You know, where I can watch it go ’round [insert that teasing little winkie emoticon yet again].
Thanks Jack and TMR…listening right now to Power of my Love!!! I agree with Kali, please make it a regular on the tour…I really hope to listen to this song in both Texas dates.
Downloaded Power of my Love and it is absolutely intense. Thanks TMR! This will make waiting for Lazaretto a little bit easier…maybe.
