This past weekend, friends, family and colleagues of Ikey Owens gathered at Third Man Records to celebrate a life well lived. We toasted to Ikey with his cocktail-of-choice (fernet and ginger ale) and swapped stories about Ikey's talent, sense of humor, and misadventures from the road, all while listening to Ikey absolutely destroy the ivories in his recordings with the Mars Volta and the Free Moral Agents. It was hard not to smile being so surrounded by Ikey's musical genius and photos of him enjoying his every moment. We are all so grateful that we were able to make cameos in such a beautiful man's life, and will always cherish the memory of Ikey Owens.

Like most fans I’m still in shock and sad over Ikey’s passing. He was not only a great musician but a kind and all around great guy. His heart was as beautiful as the music he made. I can only imagine how hard this must be for the TMR family who was so close to him. I know he would have been touched by this beautiful tribute you gave to him. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Amazing!!
Looks like fun and classy tribute to a very talented musician who also seemed to be fun and classy himself. It’s sad that this world only got 38 years of Ikey. You guys were a great band together. Best wishes to the rest of your tour dates.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for doing this, and for posting the pictures (and for not focusing on the most famous attendees). I think many of us would like to be able to buy pins to wear in Ikey’s memory—I’d certainly be proud to wear one.
Thank you for sharing this moments, this is what make us feel part of this family. It’s so good that Ikey’s family and friends had the oportunity to share memories in this celebration. He’ll be missed but never forgotten. Things like this make me proud and fortunate of being part of this adventure called The Vault. It’s all about the heart…Much love to you and Ikey.
I am in awe of your willingness to let the fans feel like part of the TMR family- thank you for sharing this precious moment. Ikey will forever be missed but never forgotten, his beautiful noise will live on. Much love to you all!!
Gone too soon…
Fare thee well Ikey Owens… godspeed you to a blessed understanding
Yup, Kali, you stated what I think so many of us have felt. We were blessed to have experienced his music and sense the bond the musicians had with one another. I marvel at how so many people have expressed thanks to Ikey for believing in them as fledgling musicians with a dream and dedication. It’s our onus, as fans and citizens, to lift others up as Ikey did. The beat goes on…
