Ye Olde...EP
scum stats: limited to 300 copies
I'm pretty sure I bought the first Jeff 7-inch via mail order from Infinity Cat within a year or so of it being released back in 2005. And this most recent EP came from the band-adjacent Earthbound Sound label just this week, giving me a solid 17-ish years of mail order directly from the band. In that span of time the band has released a metric shit ton of records, wholly embracing limited editions and colored vinyl and multiple forays into lathe cuts even. Truly a band after my heart.
So from the post-Melvins simplified sludge of that debut single "Cancer Killer" through now, the band has evolved impressively. The laconic, atmospheric, meandering excursions on "Ye Olde..." are impressive, the contributions of Kunal Prakash on guitar, bass and harmonium are a solid compliment to the further additions of modular synth, harmonium and recorder...that's a lot of shit to throw at the wall for a band that literally started out as drums and guitar.
But JTB wears it well, solidly in their thirties now, the stink of over eager youth having fully escaped them and the middle age maturity proving for fruitful explorations. Quasi new age for a quasi new age. Music to import beads by. Drone for days. Worth your attention.
I've pulled a copy of Jeff the Brotherhood's "Whatever I Want" test pressing (TMR-110) from my closet. This sumbitch is so rare it's not even listed in the Discogs database. Said disc with my handwriting on the label from September 15, 2011, will be given away to the arbitrarily "best" comment left here. Maybe it has something to do with brothers or maybe the differences in your self between 2005 and 2022. Or whatever. Surprise me. Don't be predictable, don't be basic, make something that we can all enjoy and/or appreciate. Comments need to be posted by 11:59pm Central Time on March 17th to be considered for the prize.

Hhahahah I should have edited my post below. When a sentence does not make sense try changing some words!
Here I sit in the MRI waiting with my favorite 13 yr old red headed child (he is the only one I have with gorgeous red hair so yes I can say he is my favorite red head). Why are we here will that is the point of post!
In 2005 I only had 2 kids yeppers two! That is the magic number! I was feeling lucky and I completely understood, at the time, that at 40 both my kids would be in college and life would go on kidless and free.
For those mathematicians here yup you guessed it this kids right here sitting next to me, impatiently waiting for me to type this, was not even thought off yet! With adding him to fam I pushed back kidless and free. And I did it again and again.
Fast forward to 2022——— I managed to turn 2 into 7…..
I love every minute I get with these numbskulls! Every single one of them is a music lover and a fantastic DJ in the car!
For those that are curious my kid free age as moved to 54!!!!
My life is completely different now than in 2005, but i am again at a very exciting point in my life. In 2005 I was a high school junior studying hard and trying to decide what to do with my life. Today I am living in a different city, getting married later this year, starting a new job Monday after being unemployed for 2 years, and likely moving across the country within the next 6 months. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
I’m also looking forward to living only an hour away from my brother. It has been really weird living over 1000 miles from him the last 5 years and only seeing him once or twice a year.
The difference between myself in 2005 and 2022. I was 27 living in Oneonta NY. Lip and tongue pierced with longish hair. Too skinny low ambition. way too old college student studying music performance. Decided when my girlfriend graduated with her masters we should move to Hawaii. We moved with only clothes and a acoustic guitar. Drove a beat up ford ranger across the country and flew to the big island to a town sight unseen. Found work in a boat harbor and stubbornly got started on making a life here. I’m way different now. I am good a guitar, own a house, have a 10 year old son whom has seen jack white x1 and racs x3 in his 46 attended shows so far. I’m a blue collar guy who’s living his childhood dream oh a tropical life in Hawaii. Oddly I dream of selling the house and moving to Detroit and working within the third man company. My wife would love to move to the mainland. I just don’t know what to do with my self. I am passionate about records (a vault member since the first release)
So the thing that has changed besides the besides the short hair loss of piercings and muscles. I still am broke like a college kid. There’s enough $ for sunset beachside picnics and record collecting and concert vacations. it the relationship dynamic. I love it here but my wife misses her family and feels that I’ve taken her away from that. Irony. I have no true map of what to do next. It feels like a failure to launch situation. I do love live shows and would love to press records or learn recording studio techniques. I would love to work on the music production side.

Came here looking for Blackwell’s List, and was a little disappointed. I guess I can’t blame the dude in the photo for the strategically placed LP. That must be some catastrophe-level outfit.

Random fact, Jake has a predilection for smoking meats…
“I like to smoke meat a lot,” he says matter-of-factly. “We usually, like, do meat racks and ribs one day at the studio. I like to smoke whole chickens. I like to smoke pork tenderloins and beef ribs and pork ribs. And sometimes I’ll do the whole roast beef, like a whole six-pound beef roast.”
Now I’m hungry!
