Ultimate Painting Live at Third Man Records

ULTIMATE PAINTING is an already distinguished UK duo comprised of Jack Cooper and James Hoare. As the story goes, these two spent time touring together with Cooper’s band, Mazes, supporting Hoare’s band, Veronica Falls. A fateful friendship developed and, to make it quick, demos were recorded and swapped, which all eventually led to their debut seeing release on Trouble In Mind, one of our top favorite Chicago labels. The project has been so thoroughly adored for its uncomplicated, beautifully calm approach to VU-style riff-making and loose vibes that the follow up, Green Lanes, was released a mere ten months later AKA last month! Needless to say we’re so so glad they’re bringing their way through the great land of Nashville, TN.

But that’s not all, no, not a bit. Joining U.P. for the night are label mates SALAD BOYS who will be making their debut in the USA on this trip, all the way from Christchurch, New Zealand, if you can believe it. They’re a real jangle-pop force of nature for those of you enticed by and entrenched in ANY fraction of the Flying Nun catalog. Take your pick.

Last but never least, local psych-pop stalwarts (and longtime Trouble in Mind-ers) The Paperhead will open the show and give the TMR staff a long overdue opportunity to conjure the ghost of Kevin Ayers long enough to get him in the record booth.

WAIT though! If you purchase tickets before September 15th, three lucky attendees will be randomly selected to win a SPECIAL PRIZE provided by the fine folks up north: rare and uncirculated test pressings of each band’s most recently release on TiM.

This one ain't to be missed, kids. Come get your kicks!!! Tickets are on sale NOW.

Cogitatin’ Feline, I dunno about you, but I keep picturing yellow’n’black plates spinning on top of sticks. Many, many sticks and plates spinning so fast you can hear them humming. Whether you’re into what’s on each of those individual plates or not, it’s both awesome and awe-inspiring.
