While its not very deep – I personally find that part about “music in the video games” interesting. As a young teen playing the first Tony hawk game I was exposed to a few great musicians (much the same way that a young me was exposed to Nick Drake via the Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris’ Volkswagon commercial).

While I am not one for commoditization of art – there exists a small sliver where platforms like Tv Advertisement or video game music actually provides more than a promotional tool.

Oddly enough – 3 decades later – if I am able to find time to actually sit down and play a video game – I take more time picking the record I want on, rather than the game. Its as if the game is something to do for my hands while my ears go to work.

And while its a bit dorky to admit – playing Assassin Creed 4 (where you play as a pirate) and sailing the open Caribbean waters with ‘Lazaretto’ on is actually quite great. Another for me was playing Fallout 3 with the Talking Heads’ ‘Little Creatures’.

Silly I know…

Rivals the Conan interview.

@Arlabar- thanks for the heads up about the outtakes!
Loved the interview, even though Jack didn’t really divulge anything new that fans didn’t already know, I still always learn something from him. I think Rather did to!

Just watched the 2 out takes on Dan Rather’s facebook. A must see. I SO admire his drug-free history and philosophy behind it. (And it’s SAD it almost has to be defended " these days". )Another reason why Jack White has maintained a strong work ethic, and so much excellence to show for it!!!
A man set apart from the pack. Nothing important or beautiful “went up in smoke”.

And don’t forget Freud and Horus. “Horace” woulda been my choice but hey… ;-) oh AND Dumbo…maybe next time, Spinoza.
Rhyme it with "He-knowza…lot

Thanks for the link! I don’t have cable and I really wanted to see the interview. Very interesting. You can hear the Nietzsche influence when Jack talks about creation and making art from suffering. But the science/religion outlook sounds a lot like Spinoza to me. I wonder if Spinoza is an influence as well. Maybe jack will sing about him on the next album since he threw a line in about Nietzsche on Lazaretto.

Thank you so much for posting the video TMR!! Love you guys!
Fantastic interview- if you didn’t love Jack before watching you you certainly would after. For those who are already fans the part when Jack plays Hank Williams may reduce you to a puddle on the floor!

Loved the interview. Does anyone know if there’s a place to download or watch online? Or does anyone know if someone on the Little Room may have posted the video?

This is the second interview I’ve seen with Jack in which Carl Sagan and the “science/nature” of God has been mentioned by Jack in context with questions about his religious upbringing. Each time I wish he and his interviewer would explore the subject further. I share the same perspective and am both thrilled and comforted to hear Jack express it. It is at the root of his excellence!

Is…and get hooked into Jack’s music and the wider scope of our musical roots!
