Enjoyed reading everyone’s posts here! THANK YOU TMR, for bring this to our attention. Loved the stroll down memory lane or"truckin" down it I should say, with some old friends, Hot Tuna, Donovan, Taj Majal. Hadn’t kept track of R. Crumb over the years- A REAL LIVE AMERICAN Character, so funny and talented.Jerry Z. was also great, giving us another peek into the the Paramount records saga. Used to have a girard turntable that had a 78 speed but didn’t collect any shellac;-). But did have to spin some Hot Tuna, Taj,etc. today. ALSO, liked the nod to our OWN Professor Jack White bringing BW McTell’s “Your So. Can Is Mine” and the original Death Letter back to life, so to speak. :-D …loved hearing “Walk Right In” which was also a childhood fave of mine by the Rooftop Singers-heavy rotation on the radio & a vivid memory of singing all the words and asking Mom what they meant. It was a puzzlement to me then why she didn’t like me singing “Daddy let yer mind roll on…new way of walkin’…do you want to lose your mind…” Mom wouldn’t explain but I think she had a prescient vision her sweetness would rebel…Lol. And that leads me (sorry if I’m meandering) to George Jones rich southern version of “it takes a worried man to sing a worried song. I’m worried now but I won’t be worried long.” Amen Brother George.

I recognized this man’s name right away but wasn’t 100% as to why, at first… “Fritz the Cat”!. Ralph Bakshi did the motion picture versions of Fritz and Heavy Traffic. My dad… a single dad with a wide movie range/selection… busted me watching it at 12 years old. It immediately brought back talks that him and I have had about Gilbert Shelton’s “Freak Brothers” because there was a shop that used to sell them here. I, unfortunately, did not have the pleasure of reading them before it shut down.

I did own a book when I was young called “Isn’t it Crumby When…” I wonder… are these his cartoons as well? If so, I absolutely adored that book. I laughed so much. It never got old because the pictures were priceless.

One of the coolest records you could ever want to own is a pressing of the Chimpin’ the Blues broadcast with Jerry Zolten and Robert Crumb. The two chattering together and the tunes they played are golden— http://news.psu.edu/story/295583/2013/11/25/arts-and-entertainment/decade-later-wpsu-radio-program-%E2%80%98chimpin%E2%80%99-blues%E2%80%99

I kinda alwawys thought Nick Spitzer had somethinig against Jack White. So they play a first person song about domestic abuse. Top that off with Death Letter by Son House a great song, but that is the song Jack plays that led me to the blues and it would have blown everyone’s mind! ! ! I almost felt slapped in the face.

I still love the voodoo themed show from quite a few years ago. There’s no public radio station that broadcasts it in Detroit anymore. Sad.
