I had the pleasure of seeing/hearing Margo live on the Hudson River in NYC a while ago. She had to battle bees on her mic. Performance was fantastic! I was so disappointed to miss out on the Bowery Ballroom show… sold out before I could get tickets. Looking forward to her next release.

Good God, as a farmer’s daughter now sidelined by chronic illness and watching helplessly as my dad loses his life’s work and the land it stands on, land that has been in his family for generations, no less, this song just really HURTS me. It’s a necessary hurt, though, and it’s a hurt that makes me feel less alone. That’s just stellar songwriting, no matter what genre— putting not only truth to power, but giving a sacred power to that truth. The power to persevere is strengthened through this kind of songwriting. Thank you.

As I’ve said here before, the minute I heard this song I knew it was a masterpiece and that Margo Price voice-the quintessential country songstress. I think she has crafted as beautiful a country ballad as ever has been written. Classic country songs are heartfelt, from personal experiences, holding universal truths, sung with conviction. This video sets up the song in an all-American nostalgic style that pulls at my heartstrings. Cowgirl up, Margo Price, cowgirl up.

This is a great example of why I live for music: you just never know where the beauty is going to sneak up on you from. country music is not my mashed potatoes, but this song was certainly hiding the medicine.
