Introducing Vault Package #39 - SLEEP LIVE AT THIRD MAN RECORDS
One of the biggest stories in rock music this past year was the unexpected return of Sleep with the surprise April 20th release of their new record The Sciences on Third Man Records.
As lifelong fans of the band (and OM, and High on Fire, and Neurosis...) we were nothing if not honored to be the label that released their first album in nearly 20 years. This record not only cemented the band's legacy but built upon it by pulling off the rarest of returns. It was insanely good. Not only were they here, but they were better than ever. The Sciences is spiritual, speculative, messianic and heavy as all hell. Rampant touring ensued, and if you have seen them live this past year, then you know there are among the most powerful bands working today.
Just last month, on December 12th, Sleep brought the roadshow to the Third Man headquarters in Nashville and recorded over 2 hours of career-defining material to a live audience using our direct-to-acetate / audio mixed and mastered in real-time system. Seven, count them, seven lacquer cuts later we are prepared and excited to announce that a QUADRUPLE Sleep live album of songs spanning 26 years of their career is our next Vault package. The set will be presented on 4 different colored vinyl (purple, orange, blue, green), each in their own individual jacket all housed in a sturdy slipcase. A reproduction of the poster from the show, and a mystery Sleep / TMR mission patch completes your set.

Don’t cancel your subscription. Give in to the deep and intense sounds of Sleep. The cranium crushing assault on your ear drums, Sometimes you have to let your inhibitions die and do things you imagine you don’t want to do. Committing yourself to seven sides of unknown music could change your entire world view. It may take 49 sides of continual conditioning. We just don’t know. If you think that anything will get better in your life by denying this music, you are sadly mistaken. Open your heart and soul to the inter cosmic transtopia that awaits you in the grooves. They were lovingly captured and prepared for you by sweet little Third Man misfits. Ask yourself, out of 39 vault packages…have they ever done you wrong? I think you know the answer. This vault is getting boring and we’re getting less and less each vault, I’m not sure will be keeping. it going $80 to UK. Poor value again. Vinyl me please here I come ?
They could put a 20 vinyl set of the band and I would still slap down $60 for it. You simply cannot get enough of this seemingly overlooked band. I have not heard a single note they have ever played and I cannot over state how unequivically overjoyed I am upon learning of this release. Everything Third Man touches turns to yellow.
I’ve never heard of this band and never listened to any of their songs (that I know of), but I look forward to experiencing something entirely new to me. I’m even going to resist the temptation to stream any of their music before I receive the package just so it will be an amazing experience to listen to it for the first time.
