THIRD MAN RECORDS PRESENTS:
THE GREAT GATSBY GOLD & PLATINUM LIMTED EDITION METALIZED RECORD SET
FEATURING FIRST EVER COMMERCIALLY RELEASED GOLD AND PLATINUM METALLIC LPs, LASER-CUT WOODEN JACKET WITH ALUMINUM SPINES
PRE-SALES FOR JUNE 11th RELEASE DATE OF STANDARD EDITION LP AVAILABLE FRIDAY MAY 10th.
See Video of this beautiful package HERE.
Third Man Records is humbled to be a part of such a stellar confluence of literature, art and music in handling the vinyl release of the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby.
In an effort to present an object that integrates all the inter-connected components of this release, Third Man Records has gone the extra mile with their limited-edition version of the soundtrack in pioneering a never-before released method for vinyl records.
Both LPs in the set are blindingly reflective metalized discs. Disc one is platinum and disc two is gold. These are the first-ever commercially available records made using these precious metals via this process.
Not stopping there, the records come housed in a entirely unique laser-cut wooden LP jacket riveted to aluminum spines. All of these elements (gold, platinum, aluminum, wood and brass) showcase the Art Deco-meets-modern style, classic meets cutting edge, which is the essence of The Great Gatsby film and Third Man Records.
Mere words pale in comparison to the actual physical presence of this piece, so please do check out the video here to get the full experience of the release.
These unique hand made sets will retail for $250 and Pre-Sales will be available in a limited number through the Third Man website (US only) from 9am on Friday May 10th in order to coincide with the Great Gatsby cinema release. Also on Friday the 10th, the first 100 physical copies of the set will be available in the Third Man retail store in Nashville from 10am.
In addition to the limited edition, Third Man is also announcing the release date of June 11th for the standard edition double album. The soundtrack will be on 180 gram vinyl and housed in a Gold Foil stamped gatefold sleeve. Pre-sales for this standard edition of the soundtrack will also be available on the Third Man website on Friday May 10th.
Is there any of you available to give me a US address to buy one of these from Europe? Let me know albyu2@gmail.com
I appreciate the reasons given for U.S. shipping only and understand TMR wants to minimise their risk. However if TMR is prepared to provide a fed ex 2 day delivery domestically then providing the option for international buyers to be quoted a Fed ex/UPS courier rate would be appreciated (and then if the shipping is too high, don’t buy). I’ve had large lp box sets delivered to Australia from the U.S. by courier services and arrive at my door in 3 days in perfect condition. I’m not sure I understand how the option of asking someone outside of TMR (another fan) to buy it for us and then ship it again is any different to that. The option of a Fed Ex / UPS courier direct from TMR to international destinations is probably safer as it circumvents some of the more questionable parts of the postal system.
It’s ultimately TMR’s right to offer their product any way they want, and I respect that, but if the above could be considered from an international perspective I think it would be appreciated by a wider audience than just me.
Bleh. It’s a bit too much in the conspicuous consumption category for my proletariat tastes… I’m not denying the artwork and craftsmanship are top notch and the glitz fits in with a certain interpretation of the movie and book… the music isn’t even that good except or Jack’s tune… This is a let down for me guys. Instead, I hope for some more good music from TMR, especially from Jack, which I hope to be able to afford.
I believe it is USA only because these records are so fragile that TMR does not want to risk sending them overseas and take the risk of them breaking… I know when i get my packages they’re beat to shit so I could only imagine how something like this will be treated. Then when you add that they have some gold and platinum… too much of a risk I think.
So many of these posted n ebay right now for ridiculous prices. I suspect this will be like the inverted lightening bolt pressing. Lots of people buying them just to flip. Hoping that the people who truly want one, can get it at it’s regular price.
I live in Norway and a platinum Vault member. Could anyone at Third man records please tell me why this record is not available for overseas members?? Hope other exclusive offers in the future will be for us also.
Took an hour this morning, but I weathered through and finally completed payment! No apologies necessary Rev.Swank, it was part of the fun!!! I cannot wait to unwrap this treasure ! Thanks TMR :)
@chris wilczek: Suggestion for getting items like this that can’t be shipped internationally by TMR— Take the time to make friends with U.S. folks in the Vault chat &/or the message boards. I’ve purchased and shipped stuff to people overseas who couldn’t get it otherwise, and there are plenty of other people who do the same. That’s one of the things that I love so much about this community— Folks are wonderful about helping each other out.
I just want to say, it doesn’t matter to me how limited this limited edition set is!People need to be quiet about this factor already. The craftsmanship and creativity behind this makes it worth owning and I can proudly say, this beautiful piece will be in my collection thanks to a friend and TMR gift cards. Thank you again for all of your hard work in getting this out to us fans. Will sit patiently by the door until it arrives and practice all the ooohs and ahhhs that will surely follow opening this package. Thank YOU, TMR!
I would also be curious to know how many were pressed, because I sort of figured the price + the rush to get one making it take 50 minutes to get through check out on the site meant this was one of the famous TMR super exclusives? Seems to not be the case since you can still get one hours later…still excited about it, but maybe it just doesn’t make me as special as I thought if anyone can get it?
