OMG Now I want paczkis and coneys and with the next Paramount set and being so far from Detroit, this makes me sad…but I’m glad you could go to the concert and explore a little bit…let me know how good they taste once you try them Kali
Ha! I actually don’t really love donuts but standing in line in 20 (or below) degrees for two or three hours for one is a tradition.
My house is always open to fans of Detroit. I have a few spare bedrooms and lots of couches. :)
I get it, but somehow that just doesn’t seem right. But y’all keep talking about ’em between now and next February and I might just decide that those and a couple of Coneys are worth a 15 hour round-trip day-trip.
Kali they are only available at just before and just after fat tuesday some only make them for that day. not to be seen smelled or tasted again till the following year :).
Oh. My. Gosh. I just looked up paczki and am sitting here at my desk drooling. So Fat Tuesday is the best time to get those, huh? Gonna have to see what shape my finances are in come February/March, after this tour and the next Paramount set do a number on my credit card.
@athinkingcat – I’ve actually never been to Plaka. I’ll have to try that one. I really like the Golden Fleece.
@Kali – I’ve never had Red Hots. I’ll have to head over that way some day. I live on the east side and never really go to Highland Park. Polish food in Hamtramck is great. Come up here for Fat Tuesday in February and stand in line for Paczki’s. They are so delicious!
Thanks for the recommendation, KR. My Detroit connection, who took me to Lafayette, told me the best Coneys are really at Red Hots, but I’m willing to try ‘em all. I assume the Vernor Highway that Duly’s is located on is the same Vernor as the ginger ale…? And, oh my gosh, in looking at the Google map, I just read the review of Johnny’s Ham King, that might have to go on the list, too. May need to skip my next trip to Nashville and go back to Detroit instead for a thorough exploration, I missed too many places on this trip. Definitely want to check out other spots for Polish food, too. Polish Village was certainly good (oh, that dill pickle soup), but their stuffed cabbage and pierogies just didn’t live up to my mom’s.
i got recommended to go to Plaka in Greek Town. Best Gyro ever! WE were going to go to the side by side coney places downtown but didn’t make it. :( One more thing for the next time. with each recomendation my list grows. now Duly’s Place will be added.
@Kali – Next time you are in Detroit, you should try Duly’s Place in Southwest.
Why do I suddenly have an uncontrollable craving for a Lafayette Coney…?
