Detroit Rock City Panel Podcast

Detroit Rock City Panel Podcast

A few weeks ago, Third Man proudly hosted a panel discussing five decades of Detroit rock 'n' roll. With panelists spanning across all five decades, the topics discussed were wide-reaching, informative, and often times humorous. The night began with a screening of 15 minutes of 16mm footage of the MC5 and the Stooges that had only been shown publicly once previously. The conversation was peppered with unreleased studio recordings by The Chosen Few (featuring a pre-Stooges Ron Asheton and Scott Richardson), The Go (featuring Jack White on guitar), and The White Stripes.

Panelists included...

STEVE MILLER - noted true crime journalist and editor of the recent Touch and Go: The Complete Hardcore Punk ZIne '79-'83 and lead singer of early hardcore exemplars the Fix—

SCOTT RICHARDSON - lead singer and namesake of legendary Detroit band SRC

— JERRY VILE - lead singer of cartoon punk band the Boners and editor of a slew of Detroit-area 'zines and proper publications like White Noise, Fun, and Orbit

BEN BLACKWELL - drummer for the Dirtbombs, head vinyl guy at Third Man Records, official White Stripes archivist

We are happy to give Vault members the option to listen to and download the night's conversations first.

1:22:12 , Wow, this will be nice to revisit. Really nice job setting this up and making it happen Ben Blackwell. The film presentation in the beginning brought me back in time and at the end the unheard White Stripes recorded song, well, let me just say as soon as I heard it I wanted to have a copy of it….nice preservation job there kid.

Very cool night… Jerry Vile was a hoot and a dirty old man. Lots of fun though.
