1969 b/w Poor Little Suzie
scum stats: 200 copies
Man, only became aware of Skidd within the past year or two and it really does blow my mind. How was this not on my Michigan radar previously? Totally up the crude rock and roll alley and absolutely something that more people need to know about.
The record is oddly out of time...while the label reads 1991, shit, if you said it was recorded in 1971 I would totally believe you. The influences necessary to create music of this ilk, of this magnitude, seem to solely exist in that twenty years earlier window. Certainly not anything that would've been current or actively en vogue during the first Bush administration.
And that style is so quintessentially Midwestern hard rock Stooges and MC5...I mean, shit, the song title is "1969" does he need to beat us over the head with it?!?!? Whether you view it as cribbing from Iggy and the boys or giving you a road map as to where his musical maturation ended...none of that changes the magick contained herein.
Flip side starts a little more chill in the drowsy blues "I Need Somebody" style, but motivates into a chugging punk 'n' roll feeling. A wheezy out-of-place organ can't even kill the attitude here. It's baked in. Automatic. Love it.
I've got the other Skidd 7" but have yet to dig in any further. The mere potential of the endeavor excites me to no end.
Thanks for sharing this! I will be sure to look for him now in my treasure hunting adventures. I may have thumbed right past him. Good stuff!!
