BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK
The Black Tones
"The End of Everything" b/w "Mr. Mines"
scum stats: limited to 1000 copies on red vinyl
"My name is Jesus and I came to fuck shit up" is just about the best first line introduction to a band I could ever hope for. The scrappy guitar driven scenery of "The End of Everything" is rock and roll in a motivating fashion. And finding out that the Black Tones are a two-piece, brother/sister, guitar and drums band...well, I wish them the best of luck. It can be hard out there.
"Mr. Mines" rolls along more smoothed out with charming wordless vocalizations battling with ably-played wah-wah runs for prominence in the mix. Solid and noteworthy, it would behoove you to check it out. Another solid entry in the Sub Pop Singles Club. Certainly worth the $9.99 going rate on Discogs.

I was at Third Man in Nashville earlier this afternoon, and I saw Ben Blackwell walk in. Bought the Electric Recording Company version of White Blood Cells. Best day of my life!
