“Feeling” b/w “Wear It On Your Sleeve”

scums stats: lathe-cut limited edition of 25 copies

Just arrived in the mail today, straight from the artist himself and I am stoked.

“Feeling” has been stuck in my head for quite some time. Months. Sounding so familiar, so true, as if it has always just been there.

The string section arrangement, whether that’s real instruments or keyboard midi or what…it’s so beautifully evocative. Quite reminiscent of the work Jean-Claude Vannier did for Serge Gainsbourg. Lush and NOT in the same way as that fancy soap store at the mall.

“Feeling” is also the impetus of a new playlist I’ve been compiling titled “Songs to Use If I Ever Have to Make a Movie” so yes, I feel like it has cinematic sweeps to it. Dramatically. The kind of sounds that will really convey…feeling. As if there’s something special going on here, that I can’t exactly put my finger on as to WHY it is so, but is is so very…so.

Apparently these lathe-cuts were only sold at a show a few months back here in Nashville and life prevented me from showing up. Recent connecting with Rollingchild (his mom knows him as Michael Bostinto) had him dig up a spare copy for me. I’m lucky. This shit isn’t even on Discogs (I’ll fix that shortly).

Also included in that package is an LP copy of his new album, “Post Party Depression” which I already bought a copy of, so I pass the savings on to you.

Post a comment below, just make it something interesting. WITH FEELING. The best comment by January 17th, as determined solely by me, will get this still-sealed slab of wax mailed directly to the address of their choosing.

@clockwork811 I agree. if you haven’t read it, his book ghost rider is a fascinating look into his brain. (it’s also a deeply sad book)

I dig this. Thanks for sharing!!!

“Like a Surgeon” is the sound of a man at the very height of his powers. Although, as Andy Reid reminds us “Not all of Mozart’s paintings were masterpieces”…

I haven’t felt a real emotion in years.

Weird Al was my first Concert ever 10-19-97 at the Arizona State Fair !

Ben Blackwell

to be fair, weird al was actually the first record I ever owned. I’ve never seen him live.

In appreciation of “Weird Al” Yankovic, the Dirtbombs and Ben Blackwell:

I remember many years ago there was a member profile section on the (now defunct, I think) Dirtbombs website that gave each member’s first concert along with a number of other baseball card type stats. I remember Ben Blackwell’s first rock concert was listed as “Weird Al” Yankovic. I was roughly the same age as Mr. Blackwell (well, I suppose I still am, assuming we’ve both aged at the usual pace. I was born in 1983, so…) and I was a little bit embarrassed by the fact that he and I both had Weird Al as our first concerts. To come across as cool, I would usually answer that question about first concert as L7 with the Melvins in 1994 (awesome show), but I did see Weird Al the previous year. (Actually, my parents took me to see Ray Charles a few years before that, which is a way cooler answer in hindsight for first concert… but at that point I was about 7 and only knew Ray Charles as the “uh-huh” Pepsi commercial guy).

So, I really dug Weird Al as a preteen, then kind of shoved him under the rug in embarrassment for a couple decades, until 6 years ago or so the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast and TV show reignited my love affair with ol’ “Weird.” And I have seen him live a few more times since then – once at an adults only show in Windsor, once on his no parody songs or costume changes tour, and once with the DSO last summer. I highly recommend seeing Weird Al live if you have the chance. He’s great!

Also, I highly recommend seeing the Dirtbombs if you have the chance. Ben Blackwell is a great drummer and the rest of the band is great too! It’s been a while Dirtbombs. I miss you!

One suggestion – what about a TMR 7" release from Mr. Yankovic? Pretty sure he is free of his recording contract. (While we’re at it, what about a TMR 7" release from the Dirtbombs? Or a split single between the two?)

Well today kinda sucked because I just found out Neil Peart died. He was the antithesis of Meg, but man was he an amazing MUSICIAN. Not just a drummer. Many of Rush’s lyrics came courtesy of Neil. Cancer is the one thing that does not discriminate. Just feels good typing this out. Sucks when we lose great influences in our life, even when it’s as trivial as music. Even though in life music is our soundtrack.
