“Ah Yes”
scum stats: limited to 100 hand-numbered copies
Served up fresh from Milwaukee mainstay Chris Schulist, three copies landed here at Third Man. Chris ain’t even involved in the release at all, just truly believes in sharing the power of rock and roll.
And it is powerful indeed. Mudhoney with slightly stoner vibes, lyrics only when absolutely necessary, not afraid to explore upon an extended instrumental section. You should dig this too. Much respect for going through the entire rigamarole of putting out an LP and capping it at 100 copies. That’s a ballsy move here but it works.
Swank grabbed one and I’m giving away the third copy here based on comments. Relay your best story that somehow incorporates the phrase “Ah yes.”
Winner chosen by me, so make it snappy.

@flowery i totally forgot about shoegaze. I used to melt my bloody valentine’s ‘loveless’ in my discman. Thanks for the reminder. Discogs want list ah growin!
A few years back, I was working with David J (bass player for Bauhas/Love and Rockets) on a release with Detroit’s Theatre Bizarre Orchestra and became more and more familiar with his work through talking with him about it how developed, influences, and such. Really a very nice guy, great stories.
Anyhow, in David’s memoir about his life and career, he wrote about the creation of the song “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” (1979) – considered, by some critics, “the first goth rock single”.
In the chapter he talks about how, growing up in Northampton, reggae – especially dub, was hugely popular and he really dug the sound, the groove, as a bass player. He said that influenced “Bela” because he said, really, the track is just dub reggae slowed down and in a minor key.
After I read that, I put it on… and “AH, YES!” (more like “HOLY SHIT! It’s been been hiding in plain sight, in front of my ears for years and I never really noticed that dub/reggae influence! WOW! AMAZING!”)! Kind of cool, and odd, how that happened.
I’m from Seattle, drove to Nashville to come to Third Man Records last year. I walked in the doors and it was like “Ah yes, I’m home!” What a wonderful place. I am bringing my new husband down to see it, he loves Jack as much as I do!
She broke my heart, but Mudhoney helped me through… ah yes, now I happy when I sing the blues… ah yeah. With those cords risin’ high, I found all I ever knew…
Other than its use as the phrase I solemnly, gleefully utter every few years when I visit TMR in Nashville, my best recent story with the phrase “Ah yes” involves an outdoor basketball court, a 30 foot tree limb, and a game of HORSE, though that was more of an “Aaahhh! Yes!” But really my best story has to do with a burger. After several years of traveling for work, I returned home to Texas. Texans have a few foods we hold dear, but none more so than bar-b-q, steak, and Whataburger. Coming in from the northeast, I stopped in Texarkana at the first Whataburger I saw. There’s nothing like coming home and sitting down to a burger and fries (with spicy ketchup), and in the moment before I sank my teeth into that cheesy, peppery burger, the only words I had were “Ah yes.”
Ah yes sometimes I ponder what Jack White’s interpretation of Shoegaze would sound like.
Ah yes.. Mudhoney with a touch of stoner vibes.. Mudhoney and the crew out of my home state has been opening new musical pathways for me last few days and out of character for me I’ve been using CBD oils for a hockey related injury so Mudhoney and a little THC vibes (not much as I explained in the Sleep 4/20 post lol) are kind of my thing right now in the sun. Plus just started going hard on record collecting bands like Mudhoney etc recently and just opening them, releasing the beast and listening to the sweet sweet sounds of the sludgy great music this summer. I bought this bizarre badass compilation called “Psychopticotic” by Noise Amphetamine Reptile records or something? It’s with Mudhoney, Melvins, and several other bands, clear vinyl red and blue specks, no clue about its pressing date or anything because discogs is limited but that’s going to be cool (wish I could post photo) as well as the new Portland Based Jackpot Records pre order of a very cool (Me and Mudhoney are excitied at least) Green River LIMITED pressing of ‘Come on Down’ with bonus tracks, colored vinyl just made available by Jackpot for like $15 on their page yesterday. Mudhoney also said SubPop is putting out another special Green River-Mudhoney but details not out yet, this surge of this type of music is cool because they are playing 3 shows within 4 hours this summer including the SP30 SubPop 30th anniversary party in Seattle the same weekend Jack plays there, (Big music weekend in the PNW, Pearl Jam Home Shows too, everyone is pretty much going to be in Seattle) Vinyl, beer, and lots of great bands playing so I’m going to try to make it anyway. Lots of food “grungy” stuff in my life recently, this record sounds and looks interesting and just plain cool art, good mix for the style you described. Ah yes, this also reminds me that I need to learn how to add a damn new release album on discogs (someone?). It never accepts anything except photos I put on. I’m working on it anyway. Hope all is well Ben, and all you Vault members, vinyl junkies, people that are like me. I also found a weird thing on eBay that is coming back to Third Man because of my sense of what is right in the vinyl world, my vinyl world started here so.. now to go order another roulette and the D J Swanson shirt, talked to him the other day and said I need to hear some whirlwind heat, and I see this ridiculous video on the pocket Tee lol. Love it, good way to go from no records to records, the roulette BUT I would love to own something super odd and personal on the horizon. Have a good weekend all, and if you can find it: go buy some “Superfuzz” blood orange ale by Elysian brewing get out the big muff and.. “ahhh yes..”
“Ah, yes” said the tear to the cheek as the haunting notes brought her memories to life.
So I have been entering the least couple giveaways since January. I logged onto third man records to check if the Captain Beefheart package shipped yet but instead I found this giveaway and I said to myself “ah yes another giveaway I will it win”
Snappy..ah yes
