Danny Abrams
“It’s Just Like” b/w “Who Said”
Hey Buddy! Records
100 copies
So Danny’s been in touch for awhile now. He’d reached out to the general inquiries TMR email address as a big Jack White/White Stripes fan back in 2014, when he was 12 years old. Asking about making lathe cut records and really into the Flat Duo Jets, even gave me a copy (one of two made) of a lathe-cut from his raw garage band, the Subterraneans. All good, always inquisitive, completely respectful, totally wholesome shit.
While his progression from younger blown-out garage rock and roll towards more cerebral, softer songwriting isn’t precisely my cup of tea, the fact that this kid is recording and pressing his own records at 16 years old gives me all sorts of hope for the future.
“It’s Just Like” is my jam here…brings to mind the subtle sounds of Donnie and Joe. And the flipside, while somewhat divergent, reminds me of the best of Daniel DiMaggio’s Home Blitz recordings from a decade ago, born of the same mental landscape and teenaged “let’s put on a show” fearlessness. The charming, amateurish artwork is, to me, perfection. There could be no better visual depiction of how this music sounds.
My package came complete with a copy of a “Hey Buddy” zine (issue #1), a “Cherry Dude” cassette and a Danny Abrams “Good Times, Good Times” t-shirt.
Holler at Danny at danny.subarashi@gmail.com if you want to grab one of these necessary singles. The zine lists ‘em as $9 and I’m not sure if that includes shipping or not. The “Cherry Dude” cassette is limited to 8 copies. Listed at $5.
Always support teenaged artists. Every time. You will never go wrong and will be encouraging the next wave of artists the world will adore in another 5 years.
I’ve only got one copy, but hell, I’m gonna bother Danny for another one and give it away here. Post in the comments…maybe something about your own teenaged art, about someone encouraging you, about how that underground thing you supported blew up and the sense of ownership you may have felt about it. Or whatever. The completely subjective “best” comment as determined by me will get a copy of the 7” and whatever else Danny chooses to throw into the mix.
I was super excited thinking “MY STORY WAS THE BEST STORY” but now it appears that just isn’t the case (sigh) Thanks for the Danny vinyl i really dig the B side “Who Said” was hoping for the copy of the Zine but like Tommy and Mark said thanks for the vinyl and for the street cred!
Always excited to find a surprise in my mailbox from TMR, especially when I haven’t ordered anything! Listening to Danny now. I love it! Thanks, TMR and Ben. You guys rock!

Well, my teenage art experiance I’m gonna write about happend like 3 weeks ago. Right before the end of 2017 I had been feeling quite down and had one of those deep late night conversations with a friend of mine, who had also been going through quite a tough moment lately, but he picked himself up pretty well and as we talked he told me to set my mind to something and so I did. During the New Year’s Eve I’ve began working on my first album – and I gave myself 3 weeks for it. I’m in a starting rock-ish band and we’re about to play our first show this spring, but I decided to make this album all by myself, which included the music as well as the graphics (that’s been something new to me, actually). And I went into the unknown – electronic music, but as far as I can’t stand the music people usually mean when using this term “electronic music” I tried to find my own way through it. And on January 21st this year I released the first song with all the following coming day after day – which summed up to 7 song album. After I was done with releasing the album I sat in my room and thought a little. During the time I worked on the album Jack White’s ‘Connected by Love’ came out. There’s this lyric line you probably know “let’s take what’s worst and somehow turn it into the best” – and I realized that was exactly the thing I did with this album, as my friend had advised me to do. If you’d like to give it a listen, here you go:
YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS1GVyWKMr2AuWLyCNuylRw
and Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/partydestroyer
Both ways you can find playlists done in a proper order. The mix may be raw but I believe you can get what it’s all about even though all tracks are instrumental.
Currently I’m working on realising it physically – on CDs first, cause it might be quite a hard thing to do a vinyl myself (which I’d love to do, by the way).
So that’s it – one thing done and now it’s time to put all my heart into the band. I’m excited to see what’s about to come.
cant help but feel like this is high school hoop jumping… pony tricks and such … ah well… kids love a circus
I started writing short stories when I was about 10. Kept writing in my teens to college years. Met James Franco, entered his screenwriting competition and won. Went on to work on another project with him and now I’m about to submit my first TV pilot for option. Big things can happen even when you’re a small town girl!! You have to promise yourself that you’ll never give up! In the words of the amazing Oprah “Follow your passion. It will lead you to your purpose.”
Oh yeah, the single Magazine uses the Thirdman Bumble Buzz!
My 16 year old son has a band called Salt Orchard. They are extremely ahead of their years with a blues rock vibe. You can catch them on iTunes and the new single Magazine (my personal favorite) drops Friday. The full length album will be available April. These kids inspire me daily with their original music and keep me young going to their gigs every Friday night from Dayton to Columbus to Cincinnati…..maybe one day Thirdman stage. You gotta support the youth as they are the ones who are the future of music! Check my boys out at saltorchard.com
And in typical me post fashion of course there is major typos but sky is supposed to be guy.
