BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

BLACKWELL'S RECORD OF THE WEEK

The Liminanas

“The Mirror” b/w “Wunderbar”

unknown quantity, limited pressing specifically for the band’s performance at La Maroquinerie, Paris October 9th, 2015

Damn, these folks are always impressing me. We had a slight window to do their first performance in Nashville in the Blue Room and record it but I ultimately thought that with roundabout only one LP of material it was probably too soon for such a show/recording/release.

Probably my biggest regret in shows we’ve passed on and I don’t regret much. I don’t think they’ve ever come back to our fair city, but have continued to consistently release solid, captivating records.

Gimme a 7” that is pressed specifically for one show by a band I follow this closely and I will have no problem paying the going rate. It’s tricks like this that win me over every damn time. I’m a sucker. It’s okay.

The jams are choice…a-side is quasi-literary in it’s lyrics, using the construct of the secret of making mirrors and the stories that go with them to help drive the tune. I can’t tell if it’s true, but I deeply hope it is, even if it’s propelled/delivered by guest musician Kirk Lake, whom I know nothing about and don’t have the time to start searching. B-side reminds of all the best parts of Gainsbourg, Jean Claude Vannier, Stereolab and the aesthetically elite French style that makes sure beret’s never go out of style, cigarettes look inherently cool, and that there will always be someone who understands art films far deeper than you could ever hope to.

You guys do realize TMR has released Rap music before right….

DonTazeMeBro

Damn, flash Gordan breakin out some oldies but goodies, with such hits as “rap is crap”, “Bitch bring me my chicken pot pie” and “Jesus Christ would you pull up your goddamn pants” Hey Archie Bunker 1967 called and said go fuck yourself (too much?)

DonTazeMeBro

huh

Great band ! Indie rock and psyche… One of my favorite french band. Thanks for talking about them.

well,,, OK. Seems this turned into a rap-rant. And that’s OK. ANYHOO I loved the Liminanas, Ben. The “Thanks To Jimmy Page” at the end credits, is because they sold a Led Zeppelin poster that Mr. Page had signed for them, to foot the bill for shooting this short film. I find it transcendent and a welcome trip to contemplate, accompanied by a swirling background of , music? I dig it – Thanks Ben… http://www.the-monitors.com/2015/01/08/mirror-1-featuring-the-liminanas/

Sorry you are having a bad day Schmude! You can’t always get what you want and you may find sometimes, that you get what you don’t need. Also, cool 7"! Listened intently, fascinating story.

uhhh…. the nature of a publishing entity is to expand its repertoire…. I really have been selective about my purchases and I really am working 7 days a week to fill in my collection… after decades of non-profit management I can tell you that business is complicated by the many different personalities involved and the bigger the financial institution or the more you want an artist like Jack White to tour then the more you find out where the money behind him has its interests outlined… take a big long look at what was once a ‘novelty exploration into pop’ on this label and you will see that RAP and HipHop have always been a part of the mix… im not mad but I may not listen to the words of the particular artist in question and wait for a more interesting option in the market to land here at TMR … its possible if you set the bar low to start…. anywhoooo…. this is no time to get all conservative about artists when the real looming issue is in the whitehouse right now

How can any of you be against Third Man signing a Rap Artist? You weren’t against them publishing books! Rap IS an art form. The rap game is full of poets and technical wizards. Go to Jack White III website if you want to live in a box! This is a “Label’s” website. This is Third Man’s Vault, not Jack White’s. Pearl Jam, Willie Nelson, Neil Diamond… All different… All great artists. Throw at me what you will, Third Man! Hopefully I’ll feel something else as I have so many times before.

Gordon Schmude

And you @Michael Murphy. You can buy all my packs at $1000 a piece ass
