Damn, these folks are always impressing me. We had a slight window to do their first performance in Nashville in the Blue Room and record it but I ultimately thought that with roundabout only one LP of material it was probably too soon for such a show/recording/release.
Probably my biggest regret in shows we’ve passed on and I don’t regret much. I don’t think they’ve ever come back to our fair city, but have continued to consistently release solid, captivating records.
Gimme a 7” that is pressed specifically for one show by a band I follow this closely and I will have no problem paying the going rate. It’s tricks like this that win me over every damn time. I’m a sucker. It’s okay.
The jams are choice…a-side is quasi-literary in it’s lyrics, using the construct of the secret of making mirrors and the stories that go with them to help drive the tune. I can’t tell if it’s true, but I deeply hope it is, even if it’s propelled/delivered by guest musician Kirk Lake, whom I know nothing about and don’t have the time to start searching. B-side reminds of all the best parts of Gainsbourg, Jean Claude Vannier, Stereolab and the aesthetically elite French style that makes sure beret’s never go out of style, cigarettes look inherently cool, and that there will always be someone who understands art films far deeper than you could ever hope to.
Yep, TMR is ruined now. None of the other ~500 odd records are any good any more. Gordon Schmude should immediately sell any TMR that he has to me, cheap. :-)
I’ll answer: 1. Yes, TMR signed a rapper. 2. Yes, rap is music. 3. They are signing an artist to their roster to create more music. In this case, rap music. 4. No, Jack is not high. For the record, TMR Is not ruined. They are expanding, creating and exposing people to a wide array of music/art/literature. That’s the opposite of ruined. And that’s a beautiful thing.

this is very cool and has a lot of parallels to Gang of Four’s release called Anthrax which predates it by a decade or 3 … regardless of such things… it is fresh and has that cool riffing of some psychedelic soul on ice to it …. thanks for sharing this small bit of reflection mr. Blackwell
