Third Man Books is excited to present the authorial debut of Al Cisneros, founder, bass player, and lyricist for the landmark band Sleep. Cisneros has taken up his pen, mightier that even a +1 magic sword. Here begins the saga of The Marijuanaut. An adventure which takes the reader to Planet Iommia, encounters with The Weedian, and introduces the traveller to Iommia’s deeper reverential practices, and more that resonates within the universe that Cisneros's lyrics created from the riff filled lands of Sleep’s discography. Illustrated by artists Dave Kloc and Arik Roper, the comic is 24 pages of original black and white interior art plus a full color cover jacket, all in the spirit of the mighty Conan, Star Wars, and KISS comics of the ‘70s.

The new comic will be available for pre-order as a stand-alone standard edition, and also a signed, special edition bundle. Third Man Records is psyched to announce the first single, “Have Spacesuit Will Travel,” featuring new members Dale Crover (d) and Bubba Dupree (g), will be an exclusive flexidisc included in the special edition bundle. About the Author:

New Mexico transplant Al Cisneros is best known as the founding member of bands Sleep, and OM. As a lyricist, Cisneros has created a pantheon of characters and places that now occupy a permanent space in pop-culture. According to AV CLUB, “In the history of stoner metal, there has never been a lyric more thoroughly crucial than Drop out of life with bong in hand / follow the smoke toward the riff-filled land." Other iconic Cisneros lyricsisms are “Weedian,” ”Dragonaut,” Iommisphere,” and “marijuanaut.” The humor and inventiveness of Cisneros’ lyrics have been a beacon to a subculture, but that's also because there's a penetrativeness too. Travel on now Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, Weeps into purified, the Self is not a void is the kind of line that sticks deep within a person. Cisneros’ lyrics have resonated with and created a community.
