PLAYLIST: TMR STAFF'S FAVORITE ALBUMS OF 2017

As wise men say, “out with the old and in with the new” — which in this case means GOOD RIDDANCE, 2017.

We’re embracing the New Year with open arms, but our TMR staff still took a moment to reflect on some highlights from last year… specifically, our favorite albums that were released in 2017. Check out our picks below and listen to the playlist on TIDAL.

Brett M.
Album: Phoebe Bridgers — Stranger In The Alps
Track: “Motion Sickness”

Jess R.
Album: Midland — On the Rocks
Track: “Drinking Problem”

Cam S.
Album: Milk Music — Mystic 100s
Track: “Twists & Turns & Headtrips”

Ben Swank
Hiroshi Yoshimura - Music for Nice Postcards (Wave Notation 1) - Reissue on Empire of Signs - This record is everything I want and feel we all needed most in our lives in 2017. Peace, connectivity, and strength garnered through having less..
One of the most beautiful records ever recorded in my opinion, and we spent the first days of my new sons life with this record on repeat throughout our home.
It needs to be heard as a complete piece, go ahead and give yourself 50 minutes with nothing to do but listen and watch the birds outside your window..

Sam H.
Album: Hoops - Routines
Track: “All My Life”

Jamie G.
Album: GOLIATH — WAYFARING STRANGERS: ACID NIGHTMARES (Numero Group)
Track: “DEAD DRUNK SCREAMIN’”

Jamison M.
Album: Kelley Stoltz - Que Aura
Track: “Walking Against the Greenlight”

Anna B.
Album: Alex Cameron — Forced Witness Alex Cameron
Track: “Stranger's Kiss” feat. Angel Olsen

Zach E.
Album: Tyler, the Creator - Scum Fuck Flower Boy
Track: “See you Again”

Kim B.
Album: Alex Cameron — Forced Witness
Track: Gotta pick two here: "Stranger's Kiss" (duet w/ Angel Olsen <3) & "Candy May"
This album picked me up off the bottom of the hole that was 2017 and forced me to dance around to the '80s synthy sax sleazefest that is Forced Witness.

Ben Blackwell
Album: Mattiel - Mattiel
Track: “Send It On Over”

Dave B. (Romantic Comedian)

Of course Craig Brown Band is my fave of the year but I figured I’d do non TMR releases

Album (new): Bonny Doon s/t
Track: either “Lost my way” or “I see you”

Album (reissue): U-Men -Box
Track: “Green Trumpet”

Kayla L.
Album: Melodrama - Lorde
Track: “Writer in the Dark”

My favorite TMR release of the year was Sunseeker's EP Biddeford, though! And I love the opening track, “Churchill”.

Jessica B.
Album: Spoon — Hot Thoughts
Track: "Can I Sit Next To You"

Ariana D.
Album: Pile — A Hairshirt of Purpose
Track: "Leaning on a Wheel"

Name: Brendan T.

Track: My Children

Roe P.
Album: This Is The Kit - Moonshine Freeze
Track: title track, “Moonshine Freeze”

TJ
Album: Outrageous Cherry — I Believe in Sunshine 7”
I dunno who your favorite band is, but Outrageous Cherry is better. Jump on your bed. Scream-sing out of tune. Eat Sour Patch Kids. You’re not too cool for this. R.I.P. Larry.

Jess A.
Album: Roya (self-titled)
Track: “A Sickness”

Album: Oh Sees - Orc
Track: “Keys to the Castle”

Evan H.
Album: Jefre Cantu-Ledesma — On The Echoing Green
Track: “The Faun”

Daniel D.

Thank you for including a link for your choice, Swank. Unfortunately I’ve got many other things to do while listening right now, but Yoshimura is going a long way towards making those things more bearable. Just found the album on Tidal, too, and favorited it for a time when I can sit and just watch the birds. And congratulations on your new little one!
