Sorry! I don’t want to offend others tastes in genres and I’m sure Mike Floss et al here aren’t affected by what I think.. But my passions run as deep as the next music lover and to resort to that charged rhetoric below, accusing someone of “classist dismissal”, “cultural subordination”, “passé judgement”, etc. ?!! It was too much for me to contain my rant this time.
Eloquent PC – but gag worthy to me. 99.9% of Rap Is Boring at Best. annoying, insulting and grating the rest. IMO which I hold ;-)
Its an insult to the blues, jazz or soul. But you repeat the slogan:It’s deconstructed. I say: Downgraded, head busted! I say it’s LESS not MORE than what came before-not just different times. Rhyme or Poetry, thats great! It reveals the state of the mind but they drone on. And on. It’s the same groan, a one flat note monotone. Just as Kyle described below how it’s burnt. but hey, let’s just make a buck. Who gives a duck just run for cover, it’s cool they’ll buy it. Read a book? Go to school? Nah! Easier to be an ANGRY fool. Is this what the youth need to hear “to hold it together”? Seems to me it pulls people apart. Oh, it’s Just Music you say, an expression of the heart. I say it’s subpar. A symptom of a degrading society wallowing in hatred and excuses. Just keepin it real, Holmes. All rude and crude and all ages welcome.
But the fact is that this what some people need to hear in their struggle just to hold it together… For a 14 or 15 year old this gets right to the marrow in their spine as the tension and grind of a world that is grinding them under daily… I wont disagree that the genre has burned a path across the sky with many a johnny come lately and more than a handful of half baked producers… But it is an original American artform no less than the blues or jazz and it withstands the test of deconstruction based on the fact that it is authentic to the guy kickin it down… You and i may be lookin for a new twist because we consume quality and forage for fresh sound but this kid and his crew dont give a rats hat about trendy timelines as such… They worry everyday about getting in the car with a friend or walkin home with a soda and some skittles while whitey is on the moon… This reality of classist dismissal and cultural subordination is an epidemic for people of color and socioeconomic rebels unready for the factory and slow descent into cancer and nutritional genocide associated with poverty… Let my ninja be free from your passe judgement for this day and let him roll like a king that he knows he is amongst the princes of his people and the paupers whose lives he touches… Keep it real holmes….
Sounds like every other rap song in existence. Yup I get the message. Streets are tough, dope is good, women are objects, thugs are gangsters, get that money, and the beats are looped. 15 years with one genre, its burnt.
Hope this show is totally smokin an hopin with the locals…. Its a tight mix
