We’re very excited to announce a new addition to the Third Man lexicon… A very cool collaboration with Red Digital Cinema Camera Company that we are calling The Blue Room Spotlight Series. The Spotlight Series features visually arresting, intimate performances in our Blue Room venue, shot by in-house film and video guru Brad Holland on RED cameras, and posted in 4K resolution. The Blue Room Spotlight Series will feature a variety of artists either local to Nashville or passing through town... They could be TMR recording stars or just artists we admire and respect. All genres of the musical spectrum will be represented, and artists are encouraged to re-interpret their material in ways that fans previously haven’t heard. Anything goes, and we'll be there to capture it.
Since tomorrow is our Detroit Rock n Roll hero’s 50th birthday, we’re going to go ahead and launch this baby with Danny Kroha's incredible version of Clarence Ashley’s Walking Boss on a baritone dulcimer that Danny tells us previously adorned a friends home as a purely ornamental display. A recorded version of Walking Boss is featured on Danny’s Third Man release Angels Watching Over Me. Danny, of course, is also one of the main wo/men in The Gories who are currently on tour in Europe, go and check them out if you can, and don’t forget we’ve just released a new single by the band which you can pick up right now, right here.
Dont miss Danny’s tour dates….
Just take it off the wall and make a record with it. Nicely done. I suppose if you can play a Baritone Dulcimer …. you can play most anything !
I was not familiar with Danny Kroha’s music so a big thank you to Jack and Third Man Records for introducing me to another incredibly talented artist. I will definitely be adding this album onto my TMR wish list. I love Jack and TMR’s commitment to putting out these artists that would not normally get such exposure because they would not be seen as “mainstream” or “marketable” or “not enough of an audience for that type of music” by other larger labels. The fact that Third Man does not see any of those things as a criteria for a record contract is one of the things I love most about Third Man Records. Keep up the great work TMR and keep putting out more talented artists who would not normally get this type of a break from larger labels.
This song always reminds me of the tall tale of John Henry…. True americana … After watching this it made me recall some wonderful archival treasure that i think we should all have a chance to appreciate more americana goodness as Appalachians at heart …. Je vous presente Joni Mitchell …. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-q4foLKDlcE
Beautifully done, Danny and all! I have his “Angels..” lp so it’s great to see the artistic camera work and see Danny perform this song. Must be one of those surprises Jack was telling us about ;-) Doesn’t get any better than cinematic 4K resolution plus the best sound around! …Jack and Thirdman crew, you are still amazing us with creativity in sight and sound! Thank you one and all.
Stunning addition to a notable venue which is stepping out into the forefront of intimate performance experiences… I am honored to support this with my membership!!! Much Love….
And, hey, where will we see these going forward? Here in the Vault? TMR.com? Will there be a special page for them?
Oh, this is fantastic. I hope this will be a VERY prolific series. And excellent choice to start it with, happy birthday to Danny.
