The Best Of Dope Folks Records Vol. 1

scum stats: limited to 500 copies, 100 of those on colored vinyl, 400 on black

I'm unaware of anyone else doing the deep, archival digs of underground 90's hip hop and actually reissuing them. A slippery slope for sure, as these songs are chock full of uncleared samples and they were never hits to begin with. But bless bless bless Dope Folks, been doing this for AGES now and the passion and the intense love of the game shines through here. I doubt there's legit money to be made here, so you know they mean it.

In an alternate universe, I just track down obscure and unknown Detroit hip hop from the 80s and 90s and listen to it all day long. I realize that I could make this a part of my job, but damn, I got enough on my plate already, lemme just zone out and chill to this stuff.

Got a spare copy of the LP here for someone's listening enjoyment. Just post a comment by midnight central time on Thursday April 17th and we'll pick it at random. But we won't be mad if you say something funny. Or poignant. Or though-provoking. Just do it.

There is only one place that I buy new stuff and that is from TMR. I will visit Bandcamp when Ben finds a great one, but I just can’t afford to go to every record producer to buy new stuff. My wife would kill me dead!!! I do, however, love the music that did not make the top 100. This music is usually better, with more feelings, more soulful, and more real than a lot of autotuned garbage making the top 40. Give me the up and comers any day, they are still in the business to make music. Thanks Ben for turning us on to what you find, I really appreciate you for just that………………….
